New York CNN —2024 may not have been the best or worst year ever for McDonald’s — but it was certainly a memorable one. Another Pennsylvania McDonald’s became the backdrop for the culmination of a massive manhunt this week, when an employee at an Altoona location alerted police to a patron who resembled the suspected gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare’s CEO in Manhattan last week. In that way, McDonald’s became a kind of scapegoat for people who were exhausted of stretching their budgets to afford food and suspecting (not without reason) that corporate greed was at least partly to blame. “We’re always living in some way with McDonald’s,” she noted. “And I think in a lot of ways, we’re all working for McDonald’s — whether we work in a restaurant or not.”

I was a child during the brief war between Georgia and Russia in 2008. “We have never experienced a period of benefit when we had high tariffs,” he said, referring both to Ikea and the global economy. We will need to understand and adapt.”On Monday, President-elect Trump promised massive hikes in tariffs on goods coming from Mexico, Canada and China. The bulk of Ikea’s goods — some 70% — are produced in Europe, with the remaining 30% made in Asia, mostly China. Last year, Ikea cut prices on roughly 2,000 products — at a cost of more than €2 billion ($2.1 billion) — to give inflation-weary consumers a break. And it underscores frustrations with a tariff exclusion process launched during the first Trump administration that is often described as murky and messy. It’s not clear how or when those higher China tariffs will take effect – nor whether businesses will again have the opportunity to apply for exclusions. But what is clear is that the USTR’s tariff exclusion process during the first Trump administration raised significant concerns in Corporate America. The Trump transition did not provide details on what a tariff exclusion process will look like in the new administration. The researchers did not study tariff exclusions under the Biden administration.
