CNN —Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said that he does not regret his tackle attempt in his team’s 23-15 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, despite his history of head injuries. During the second quarter of the Monday Night Football matchup, Tagovailoa threw a pass intended for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle that was intercepted by Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom. I’ll make the tackle, that’s what I’ve got to do. Tagovailoa suffered his most recent concussion against the Bills when he dove for a first down and took a hit from Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa recorded 207 yards through the air in Monday’s victory and threw a touchdown pass to receiver Tyreek Hill.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.— Despite calls to consider retirement, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to the football field Sunday, playing his first game since he sustained the third concussion of his professional career last month. The crowd erupted into cheers, chanting, "Tua, Tua, Tua!" Tagovailoa told reporters last week he opted not to wear a Guardian Cap, saying it was a "personal choice." The NFL’s top doctor said Tagovailoa would gain minimal benefit because he already wears a newer, more protective helmet. Another fan, Brandon Derber, said, "If he wants to keep playing football, he should keep playing football, so, and I think honestly the way he's acting, he wants to perform pretty well."

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has cleared the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol and will start Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced Friday. Tagovailoa has not played since Week 2 after he suffered a concussion in a Thursday night game against the Buffalo Bills. Sunday’s game against the Cardinals will mark 45 days since Tagovailoa sustained the concussion, at least the third of his professional career. In his two appearances this season, Tagovailoa completed 40 of 62 passes for 483 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. In July, Miami signed Tagovailoa, the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension with $167.1 million guaranteed.

CNN —Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been cleared from concussion protocol and is set to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Friday, emphasizing that medical experts have expressed support for the star to return. He had been placed on the injured reserve list and was eligible to return to play this week provided he cleared protocol. The Dolphins went 1-3 without their signal caller, as the offense averaged a league-low 8.75 points per game during his absence. McDaniel was asked Wednesday why Tagovailoa was placed on the injured reserve list if the quarterback said he was symptom-free. That’s it.”A day before Friday’s announcement that Tagovailoa had been cleared, Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith was asked about how the 26-year-old quarterback’s return would help in his job.

CNN —Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering another concussion in the game against the Buffalo Bills last month. Dolphins’ star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, was very excited, saying having Tagovailoa back almost made him cry. “Just having him in the lineup, having him call the plays, having him direct the offense, just hearing his voice. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked before practice Wednesday why Tagovailoa was placed on the reserve/Injured list if the quarterback said he was symptom-free. “During this stretch where he hasn’t been on the field, he’s in a more powerful place with the team,” McDaniel said.

CNN —Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is set to return to practice Wednesday after missing the last four games as a result of suffering another concussion. Tagovailoa will still need to clear concussion protocol in order to play in Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals at Hard Rock Stadium. The 26-year-old said it was his choice to return to play football and understands people’s worry that he may get hurt again. “I appreciate your concern,” Tagovailoa told reporters Monday. Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel expects quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to play again this season, he said Monday. Tagovailoa has not played since suffering a concussion against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 12. Tagovailoa must also clear the NFL’s concussion protocol before he is eligible to play, a process that begins only after he’s activated from IR. The concussion Tagovailoa sustained against the Bills is at least the third of his professional career. Tagovailoa was also suspected of having a third concussion that season, a controversy that led to an overhaul of the NFL’s concussion protocol.

CNN —Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel says he expects Tua Tagovailoa to play football this season after suffering his latest concussion earlier this year. But after his most recent head injury, McDaniel told reporters on Monday he hopes to see Tagovailoa return to the field this season. There’s still information that he’s seeking this week,” McDaniel said. The Dolphins have struggled in Tagovailoa’s absence, losing twice and winning their most recent game in Week 5 against the New England Patriots. After guiding the Dolphins to the playoffs last season, Tagovailoa agreed to a four-year contract extension in the offseason, reportedly worth $212.4 million.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Rivera believes the success of existing minority head coaches in the 2023 season “absolutely” impacted the number of minority hires this year. Rivera, like many minority head coaches, hopes that one day color won't be an issue. “There are enough good coaches now where we can start saying, 'Hey, let’s just call everybody a head coach, not necessarily minority head coach.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Miami safety Jevon Holland called the MetLife Stadium turf “trash” after teammate Jaelan Phillips injured his right Achilles tendon in the Dolphins' 34-13 win over the New York Jets on Friday. Phillips was carted from the field late in the fourth quarter, a non-contact injury that reignited the turf-vs.-grass debate among players. MetLife Stadium changed its surface — which had been widely criticized because of injuries — before this season. Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert was a member of the San Francisco 49ers when he was injured in 2020 and teammates Solomon Thomas, now with the Jets, and Nick Bosa both suffered season-ending injuries on the previous MetLife Stadium turf. We've got to do something about this turf and this playing surface.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins are placing rookie running back De'Von Achane on injured reserve on Wednesday after he suffered a knee injury against the New York Giants. Coach Mike McDaniel did not confirm whether Achane's injury will require surgery, nor did he provide many details on the extent of the injury. He said it is not a “grave” injury, and he expects Achane to return this season. Achane will miss Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, as well as matchups against Philadelphia, New England and Kansas City. The Dolphins have a bye in Week 10, so he will be eligible to return in Week 11 against the Raiders.

CNN —The Miami Dolphins put on an offensive masterclass Sunday, defeating the Denver Broncos 70-20 in their home opener and scoring the second most points by a team in a regular season game in NFL history. The NFL record for one game is 73 points, set by the Chicago Bears in the 1940 NFL Championship. The regular season record is 72 points by Washington in 1966. Late in the fourth quarter the Dolphins had a chance to break the NFL regular season record and tie the Bears’ mark but opted to kneel instead of kicking a field goal from the Broncos’ 28-yard line. The only other team to score 70 points in an NFL game was the Los Angeles Rams in 1950 against the Baltimore Colts.
