Blackstone announced Tuesday that it has acquired a “majority ownership position” in Jersey Mike’s, valued at around $8 billion, according to a source familiar. The influx of cash will help the sandwich chain “accelerate its expansion across and beyond the US market, as well as its continued investment in technology and digital transformation,” a statement said. “We believe we are still in the early innings of Jersey Mike’s growth story and that Blackstone is the right partner to help us reach even greater heights,” Cancro said in a statement. New York CNN —To undercut its fast-growing rivals, Subway is making a big change to its meats. Subway locations currently fresh slice vegetables and freshly bakes bread and cookies daily. The makeover placed less of an emphasis on customization in favor of a “Subway Series” sandwich menu, which now accounts for 20% of sales. Average yearly sales at Subway US restaurants, however, are much lower compared to its sandwich business rivals. Subway is also up for sale, with Haynes saying that it’s “on track” for an imminent announcement, likely in mid-July.

For most people, a meal at an upscale chain is about the ambience as much as the food. The pandemic seems to have taken away some of the charm of eating out, though. A surprisingly high 18% of sales at American fine dining establishments last year, surveyed by consulting firm Technomic, were to people for whom there is no place like home—except maybe their car.

If anyone was clamoring for a third Magic Mike vehicle, I missed it. It has been 11 years since the movie of that name about surprisingly complex male strippers and eight years since its sequel, “Magic Mike XXL.” Each of them deployed cinematic sleight of hand: Although they beckoned audiences with the erotic dancing of men who were carved in granite and yet as flexible as licorice, both films offered in-depth character studies within finely observed portraits of an intriguing subculture. With “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” however, the series reverses course. Those who turn up expecting more sharp writing will find that the third installment has almost nothing to offer except sexy dancing. It may be cheaper than a trip to see the gentlemen of Chippendales but, artistically speaking, it’s on roughly the same level.
