But many Syracuse residents feel that a potential threat to their health is being ignored. “This is morally outrageous.”City officials say that more than 14,000 homes receive water from lead pipes, which comprises about a quarter of residences citywide. In Syracuse, officials say there is no lead in the lake that provides drinking water to residents. That’s faster than EPA guidelines that call for lead pipes to be replaced within a decade. Activists hope Syracuse officials will learn lessons from the Flint water crisis, during which almost 30,000 children drank and bathed in lead-laced water before the EPA stepped in.

New York CNN —Red Lobster wants to close several dozen more restaurants following its bankruptcy, and it has identified which ones are in danger of shutting down if the court approves its plan. Rashida Tlaib, who represents the majority-Arab Michigan city of Dearborn, endorsed the movement and cast an uncommitted ballot herself. Islamophobic," Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said about the WSJ piece written by Steven Stalinsky, executive director of the Middle East Media Research Institute. This is a direct result of the inflammatory @WSJ opinion piece that has led to an alarming increase in bigoted and Islamophobic rhetoric online targeting the city of Dearborn," the mayor added. Tina Kotek on Thursday declared a statewide emergency following deadly ice storms. Trees and power lines already coated with ice could topple if they get more, the National Weather Service warned. “Stay safe out there over the next several days as our region tries to thaw out,” the weather service said. The National Weather Service said there could be a thaw next week, when the forecast calls for above-average temperatures across almost the whole country.

German shepherds that were being transported from Chicago to a training center for police dogs in Michigan City, Ind., died in the heat on Thursday after an air-conditioning unit that was being used to keep the animals cool failed, the local authorities said. The Lake Station Police Department, which responded to a chaotic scene at a gas station off the interstate in Lake Station, Ind., did not specify in a statement issued on Friday how many dogs had been en route to the training center or how many had died. The driver had been stuck in a traffic delay for two hours and had not been aware of the air-conditioner’s failure because the dogs were in a separate cargo area, the statement said. The driver was alerted to their distress when he heard some of the dogs barking. The area near Hobart reached highs of at least 91 degrees on Thursday, according to the Chicago forecast office of the National Weather Service.

However, a spokesperson from the Michigan Department of Transportation denied Edwards' claim that the department would shut down the street, The Flint Journal reported.
