West Palm Beach, Florida CNN —President-elect Donald Trump has named Steven Cheung as his White House communications director, promoting the campaign spokesman to one of the top communications roles in the White House. During Trump’s first term, Cheung served as director of strategic response. “I am thrilled to have them join my White House as we, Make America Great Again!”The position of White House communications director is separate from the role as White House press secretary, though people have served both roles simultaneously in the past. Both he and another White House communications director, Stephanie Grisham, have since broken from their former boss. Prior to working on Trump’s first campaign, Cheung was a spokesman for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Several people, including children and college students, have reported receiving racist text messages from unrecognized phone numbers in recent days. CNN —President Joe Biden on Friday formally apologized to Native Americans for what he described as “one of the most horrific chapters in American history,” government-funded boarding schools that abused indigenous children and forced them to assimilate over a 150-year period. Three years ago, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary, commissioned the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative to review the schools’ impacts on Native Americans. Their final report, issued this summer, found at least 973 Native American children died while attending these federal boarding schools.
