In the United States, California continues to have the most solar energy, followed by Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona. China was one of the few growing markets this year for wind, the Global Wind Energy Council said. Faster permitting and other improvements in key markets such as Germany and India also helped add more wind energy. The top three markets this year are still China, the United States, and Germany for wind energy produced on land, and China, the United Kingdom, and Germany for offshore. The analysts are predicting that the global industry will rebound next year and make nearly 12% more wind energy available worldwide.

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese judicial authorities have questioned two people at the request of Turkey on suspicion of being involved in the 2019 escape of auto tycoon Carlos Ghosn from Japan to Lebanon via Istanbul, officials said Friday. Before he could stand trial, however, he escaped to Lebanon, via Turkey, apparently hidden in a box on a private plane. The pilot, officials said, denied that he got paid to help Ghosn escape to Beirut. A Tokyo court handed down prison terms in 2021 for Taylor and his son Peter after they were accused of helping Ghosn escape. Since he fled to Lebanon, Beirut has received three notices from Interpol based on arrest warrants for him from those countries.

To illustrate their case, Harry’s lawyers submitted 147 articles that it said were based on information obtained using illegal means. “Every facet of his life was splashed across the paper as an exclusive, a story too good not to publish,” Mr. Sherborne said. “The notion that this took place years ago is misplaced,” he said. Still, that is the nub of the case made by the Mirror Group’s lawyers. The practice of phone hacking has all but vanished since the scandal erupted in 2011, according to lawyers who specialize in these cases.

TOKYO — An American father and son convicted in Japan on charges of helping former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn escape to Lebanon by hiding in a box have been returned to the U.S., their lawyer said Tuesday. The U.S. and Japan have an extradition treaty, while Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan. Peter Taylor has already been released, and is back with his family in Massachusetts, said Kelly, whose office is based in Boston. During their trial in Tokyo, Michael and Peter Taylor apologized and acknowledged guilt, saying they had been misled by Ghosn. He says he fled because he could not expect a fair trial in Japan.
The American father and son who helped former Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. Chairman Carlos Ghosn escape from Japan have returned to the U.S. after spending 20 months in Japanese jails. Michael Taylor , a 62-year-old former Green Beret, is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles with a release date set for Jan. 1, 2023, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website. His son Peter Taylor is back home in Massachusetts with his family, according to their lawyer, Paul V. Kelly . Mr. Kelly said he was in discussions with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and parole officials about releasing his client sooner. Bloomberg News reported earlier that the Taylors were back in the U.S.
read moreIn the run-up to the COP27 U.N. climate summit, taking place in Egypt from Nov. 6-18, green groups urged Brazil and other forest nations to team up to increase their bargaining power during talks with potential donors over rainforest protection. Brazil was the climate-change success story of the early 2000s when its government - led then by Lula - slashed deforestation rates in the Amazon, she said. But enforcing forest protection laws in remote areas is a problem for all three, conservationists said, while Bolsonaro's allies form the largest bloc in Brazil's Congress, which could hinder Lula's policy push. Other forest nations - like Colombia - could also take part in talks and join any new alliance at COP27 to create a "more robust and effective" coalition, he added. "Done right, collaboration and exchange of experience between rainforest countries can help in tackling deforestation," Jaeger said.
A new survey reveals the airports in North America with the highest customer satisfaction in 2022. JD Power asked more than 26,000 travelers to evaluate recent airport experiences amid a surge in travel chaos. A recent survey of satisfaction at airports found that customers are most satisfied with airports in Florida. In its 2022 North American Airport Satisfaction Survey, JD Power found that travel customers are significantly more bothered by crowds, food prices, and airport parking than last year. Recent air travel chaos has been well documented, with labor shortages and logistical issues causing flight delays, cancelations, and lost baggage.
