Take part in a ritual during which a temazcalero, or guide, will lead you through breathing exercises, chants and drumming with the aim of renewing your energy, followed by time in a temazcal dome, where steam rises from hot stones. Attend a class like singing bowl therapy or meditation. Learn how to make essential oils and herbal pillows at an aromatherapy workshop. Or take a contemplative walk in the labyrinth. There’s also a fitness studio, two hilltop pools and water-themed therapies, including an ice bath, at the hotel’s Desert Springs hydrotherapy facility.

Dear Tripped Up,Last October, my extended family spent a week in Todos Santos, in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, for a wedding. Nothing else unusual happened that day, and reviews on Google for this gas station contain eerily similar accusations of fraudulent charges from other tourists. I disputed the charge, but Wells Fargo repeatedly denied my claim, even when I asked the Better Business Bureau to intercede. Dear Nate,We cannot be sure the fraud occurred at the gas station, but if so, it’s a clever scam. Humor me while I consider the situation from the perspective of a bank like Wells Fargo.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The start of the commercial Dungeness crab season in California has been delayed for the sixth year in a row to protect humpback whales from becoming entangled in trap and buoy lines. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife said commercial crabbing will be delayed until at least Dec. 1. It’s the latest delay for the start of the commercial season, which traditionally begins in mid-November for waters between the Mendocino county line and the border with Mexico. The recreational take of Dungeness crab using traps will be temporarily restricted in some areas when the recreational season opens Nov. 4, officials said. Otis’ arrival came just days after Hurricane Norma struck the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula to the north. Acapulco is a city of more than 1 million people at the foot of steep mountains. The storm was expected to become a powerful extratropical cyclone by Thursday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Strong waves caused by hurricane Norma hits a beach in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. Hurricane Norma has made landfall near the resorts of Los Cabos at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. Hotels in Los Cabos remained about three-quarters full of tourists, but shelters were set up at schools in the resorts. “Near the coast, the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves,” the hurricane center said. “These rains will likely produce flash and urban flooding, along with possible mudslides in areas of higher terrain,” the National Hurricane Center warned. Tammy is expected to move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands – including Guadeloupe and Antigua and Barbuda – through Saturday night, and then move north of the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday. A storm surge of 1 to 3 feet is possible for parts of the Leeward Islands. Rainfall totals for the Leeward Islands are expected to be 4 to 8 inches, but could reach a foot in places where the heaviest rain sets up.

An altered clip of lightning and thunder shared in June has been recirculated by users online saying it shows footage of Tropical Storm Hilary in August. The posts include a video of bright strikes of lightning as seen from a car lot. However, the clip was shared since at least June 22, two months prior to Storm Hilary in August. The same clip can be seen on the user’s YouTube page in a June 22 video with an identical caption (here). The lightning footage has been shared since at least June and predates Storm Hilary.

New York CNN —More than 4,500 flights are delayed or canceled across the US on Sunday evening as California continues to brace for the impact from Tropical Storm Hilary. Harry Reid International Airport is pictured October 14, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are also some delays at international airports in Denver and Phoenix, as the ripple effect from the storm spreads. The storm has not yet made landfall in the US, but it slammed Mexico’s Baja California region earlier Sunday. Hilary is likely to bring severe flooding to parts of California and Nevada, which could experience a year’s worth of rain on Sunday.

CNN —Residents in the Southwest are bracing for heavy rains and potentially catastrophic flooding as Hurricane Hilary is expected to pummel the region as a rare tropical storm beginning Sunday and lasting into next week. Its core is expected to pass close to the peninsula Saturday night and then weaken into a tropical storm as it crosses into the US and Southern California. The threat has triggered California’s first ever tropical storm warning extending from the state’s southern border to just north of Los Angeles. “Preparations for the impacts of flooding from rainfall should be completed as soon as possible, as heavy rain will increase ahead of the center on Saturday,” the hurricane center said. Entrepreneur Luke Iseman said the sulfur dioxide in the balloons would deflect sunlight and cool the atmosphere, a controversial climate strategy known as solar geoengineering. The Mexican government told Reuters it is now actively drafting “new regulations and standards” to prohibit solar geoengineering inside the country. While the Mexican government announced its intention to ban solar geoengineering in January, its current actions and plans to discuss geoengineering bans with other countries have not been previously reported. GLOBAL GEOENGINEERING BANClimate policy experts said Mexico is in a position to help set the rules for future geoengineering research. David Keith, a professor of applied physics and public policy at Harvard University who has dedicated much of his research to solar geoengineering, called Iseman's launch a "stunt."
The final leg of NASA’s inaugural Artemis mission is expected to unfold Sunday as the spacecraft the agency sent to orbit the moon tries to return to Earth. The crew module on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Orion spacecraft is slated to land under parachutes in the Pacific Ocean around 12:40 p.m. ET Sunday, off the coast of Mexico’s Baja California, according to NASA’s re-entry plan.
CNN —The Artemis I mission — a 25½-day uncrewed test flight around the moon meant to pave the way for future astronaut missions — is coming to an end as NASA’s Orion spacecraft is expected to make an ocean splashdown Sunday. Lockheed is NASA’s primary contractor for the Orion spacecraft. The space agency’s plans are to parlay the Artemis moon missions into a program that will send astronauts to Mars, a journey that will have a much faster and more daring reentry process. The Orion capsule captures a view of the lunar surface, with Earth in the background lit in the shape of a crescent by the sun. Artemis II will aim to send astronauts on a similar trajectory as Artemis I, flying around the moon but not landing on its surface.

CNN —The Artemis I mission — a 25½-day uncrewed test flight around the moon meant to pave the way for future astronaut missions — came to a momentous end as NASA’s Orion spacecraft made a successful ocean splashdown Sunday. That process, much like the rest of the mission, aims to ensure the Orion spacecraft is ready to fly astronauts. Lockheed is NASA’s primary contractor for the Orion spacecraft. The space agency’s plans are to parlay the Artemis moon missions into a program that will send astronauts to Mars, a journey that will have a much faster and more daring reentry process.
