James Earl Carter, Jr., more commonly known as Jimmy Carter, served as the 39th U.S. president from 1977 to 1981. In 2019, Carter told People Magazine that he never expected to live as long as he has: "It's hard to live until you're 95 years old." In February of 2023, President Carter entered home hospice care after several hospital stays over the years, following his cancer diagnosis in 2015. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in November 2023 at 96 years old, kept each other going. Their love story began when the two met at Plains United Methodist Church in their hometown of Plains, Georgia, Mr. Carter told The Washington Post.

Read previewA recent sleepover made me consider how different my childhood was compared to my children's. While my sleepovers were better than theirs, their experiences in other areas of their childhood seem much better. And while I'm happy they get to have those experiences, I'm also starting to get a little jealous. They don't have to spend hours at church like I didOf all the shared life experiences, church activity makes me the most envious. And it's nice to think that someday in the future, my oldest will be hesitant to let his kid mow the lawn, too.

Davis, who will be sentenced in December, faces a maximum of six years in prison, according to the plea agreement. The student, who has only been identified as Z.F., was seated near the back of the bus when Davis boarded and sat down nearby, according to the plea agreement. The incident left many Asian American students at the university shaken, with several previously telling NBC News that they did not feel sufficiently supported. Some pointed out that the anti-Asian hate was particularly concerning given the area’s history of race-related violence against Asian students. When your kid comes out as trans, here’s what to do

CNN spoke with a doctor, gender rights activists and parents of trans children about what to say when a child comes out as transgender, how to address certain challenges and what receiving gender-affirming care is like. Some parents want to support their child but worry if their gender identity is the result of a phase, or if they’ll change their mind later. It would be their decision resulting from the exploration of their gender identity, rather than someone trying to control it for them. Rhyland’s son later realized he is trans masculine nonbinary and uses he/him pronouns, and he’s OK with Rhyland calling him her son. (Trans masculine nonbinary means someone’s gender identity is nonbinary, yet they present in a typically masculine fashion with their name, style and more.)

Walking past empty pews and stained-glass windows, the Rev. As Mr. Cyrus-Franklin spoke, a 78-year-old man named Bill Dorsey was a few yards away in an outdoor corridor that led to the chapel, amid tarps and piles of clothes. “We know their stories and we know how hard it is to find housing,” Mr. Cyrus-Franklin said. Following the Friday release of "Cowboy Carter," Beyoncé's genre-bending country album, fans of the award-winning singer are speculating on what she has up her sleeve for her next album. However, Bey has shown us that she can belt a tune in Spanish, thanks to her 2007 "Irreemplazable" album — Spanish recordings of songs from her "Irreplaceable" album. A rock album would align with Beyoncé's mission to reclaim art forms created by Black musicians, and "Cowboy Carter" is chock full of rock references.

CNN —Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said Saturday that “the train is coming,” referring to her team’s preparation for the case against former President Donald Trump and his 14 co-defendants and whether she was slowed down by attempts to remove her from the case. On Wednesday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee granted requests from Trump and his co-defendants to appeal the decision to allow Willis to continue prosecuting the case. Willis said she doesn’t feel as though she needs to rehabilitate her reputation with Fulton County residents, adding, “I’m not embarrassed by anything I’ve done. PLAINS, Ga. (AP) — Rosalynn Carter will receive her final farewells Wednesday in the same tiny town where she was born and that served as a home base as she and her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, climbed to the White House and spent four decades thereafter as global humanitarians. Coming from that town of about 600 — then and now — Rosalynn Carter became a global figure whose “effort changed lives,” her grandson said. But there is a wooden cross that Jimmy Carter fashioned in his woodshop and offering plates that he turned on his lathe. Former President Jimmy Carter will emerge from hospice care to join some of his successors and every living presidential spouse on Tuesday to honor Rosalynn Carter, his wife and partner of more than three-quarters of a century and the nation’s first lady from 1977 to 1981, the Carter Center said. President Biden, former President Bill Clinton and all five living first ladies will attend as well. Frail but alert and smiling, the two made their last public appearance together in September when they were driven around the Plains Peanut Festival. Born at her family’s house in Plains, the tiny town where she would live most of her life, Eleanor Rosalynn Smith as a young girl might have been surprised at the star-studded turnout expected to salute her at the end. Her father drove a school bus, owned an auto repair shop and ran a farm, while her mother sold milk from their one cow, worked in the school lunchroom and later joined the post office.

Rosalynn Carter was diagnosed with dementia, her family said in May. She lay in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta on Monday. In any other circumstance it would have been a shocking sight. Not only that, but she created a situation in which Mrs. Trump was seated right next to Michelle Obama. Mrs. Trump has eschewed almost every major event since leaving the White House in January 2021, including her husband’s several court appearances (the rare exception being his November 2022 announcement that he was once again running for president). But on Tuesday, as is custom, she joined the three other living former first ladies — Mrs. Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush — as well as Jill Biden, the current first lady, at the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta, for Mrs. Carter’s memorial service. “Rosalynn Carter would be so pleased she brought all of you together on this day,” the journalist Judy Woodruff said.

“The history of Harlem churches is bound up with the history of cities and the changes that happen within the cities,” said Prof. Wallace Best, who teaches African American studies and religion at Princeton University and is writing a book on Black churches in Harlem.
