Sheryl Sandberg, who helped to transform Facebook from a tech startup into a digital advertising empire, will step down from the board of Meta, Facebook's parent company. She had served as COO of Facebook, and then Meta, for 14 and a half years and as a board member for 12 years. Last year Sandberg announced that she was launching a girls leadership program through her foundation to respond to what she calls stubborn gender inequities. The girls leadership program includes a middle-school curriculum as well as resources for adults. Lean In is a project of the Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation, the private foundation Sandberg started with her late husband, Dave Goldberg.

Meta’s Oversight Board said in the wake of the report that Facebook had failed to provide it with crucial details about the system. The board — an entity financed by Meta but which says it operates independently — urged the company to “radically increase transparency” about the cross-check system and how it works. On Friday, Meta said it would implement in part or in full many of the more than two dozen recommendations the Oversight Board made for improving the program. Meta will also refine its process for temporarily removing or hiding potentially harmful content while it’s pending additional review. Meta’s Oversight Board did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Meta’s planned policy changes.

Feb 13 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms (META.O) said on Monday Chief Business Officer Marne Levine was leaving the owner of Facebook after a 13-year stint. Fifty-two-year-old Levine, appointed as the company's first chief business officer in 2021, has served in various other executive positions at the social media company, including chief operating officer of Instagram. The company said it expanded Nicola Mendelsohn's role as head of global business group and named Justin Osofsky as head of online sales, operations and partnerships, in the wake of Levine's imminent departure. The changes come at a time when Meta has promised to cut costs by $5 billion in the year to a range of $89 billion to $95 billion, calling 2023 the "Year of Efficiency". New York CNN Business —After a yearlong review, Meta’s Oversight Board on Tuesday said the company’s controversial system that applies a different content moderation process for posts from VIPs is set up to “satisfy business concerns” and risks doing harm to everyday users. The company in response requested that the Oversight Board review the cross-check system. Meta says that the program helps address “false negatives” where content is removed despite not breaking any of its rules for key users. As part of a wide-ranging advisory for restructuring cross-check, the Oversight Board raised concerns that by delaying removal of potentially violative content by cross-check users pending additional review, the company could be allowing the content to cause harm. For the sake of transparency, “Meta should measure, audit, and publish key metrics around its cross-check program so it can tell whether the program is working effectively,” the board said.
Textron – Shares of Textron jumped 6% after the company won a U.S. Army contract that could be worth $70 billion to provide next-generation helicopters. Charter Communications – Charter Communications fell 5% after analysts at Citi added a negative catalyst watch to the company heading into its analyst day. Signet Jewelers – Shares of Signet Jewelers surged 18% after the company announced earnings results that beat Wall Street's expectations before the market open Tuesday. SVB Financial Group – Shares of SVB Financial slid nearly 4%, reaching a 52-week low earlier in the day. Semiconductor stocks – Semi stocks Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia fell 4% and 3.1% respectively amid a broader selloff in the Nasdaq.
Meta told the Oversight Board that it "does have a system that blocks some enforcement actions outside of the cross-check system." For most users, content moderation on Facebook and Instagram was historically straightforward. But for a privileged few, the cross-check program activated a different, more human process. It wasn't clear who made a decision to fast-track a content review process to global leadership. In the report, Meta's Oversight Board provided over two dozen recommendations on fixes to the cross-check program.
