The win gives Miami a one-game lead in the best-of-three first round series of the MLS playoffs, with Game 2 being played on November 2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. For sure, it is difficult to find a player who plays in his position and is as decisive.”Suárez opens the scoring for Miami against Atlanta United. Major League Soccer scored several regular season records, including for attendance and sponsorship, thanks in part to international superstar Lionel Messi — and corporate strategy. Each match during the 2024 season averaged 23,234 attendees, the highest ever for the regular season. Last year, the MLS’s Inter Miami signed Messi, which caused a surge in attendance, jersey and other product sales, and overall fanbase engagement. The league signed 18 new sponsorship partners this season between the MLS and Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of the MLS. CNN —More than 11 million fans have attended Major League Soccer matches this year, breaking the regular season attendance record. With 16 games still remaining before the start of the MLS Cup playoffs, the total has already surpassed the previous record of 10,900,804 set in 2023. At just over 17,000, the average crowd for Inter Miami games, home and away, was the second smallest in the league in 2022. CNN —Cristiano Ronaldo may be in the twilight of his career, but the soccer star still tops Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid athletes thanks to his huge wages in Saudi Arabia. According to Forbes’ list, which was released on Thursday, Ronaldo earned $260 million over the last 12 months, $200 million from his club contract with Al-Nassr and $60 million in off-field earnings. Rahm’s total earnings are $218 million, Forbes calculated – $198 million through playing wages alone – while Messi’s are $135 million, more than half of which ($70 million) are off-the-field payments.
