In 2016, the U.S. DOJ called on Mercedes-Benz to conduct an internal investigation into possible manipulated emissions, opens new tab values in diesel vehicles. The car maker was accused of deceiving consumers by marketing its BlueTEC vehicles as "the world's cleanest and most advanced diesel."

The 'DRIVE PILOT' system can only operate on highways during daylight at speeds not exceeding 40 miles per hour, the DMV said. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz also received an approval to deploy advanced automated driving systems on Nevada's roads.
