More than a dozen Jewish TikTok creators and celebrities confronted TikTok executives and other employees in a private meeting on Wednesday night, urging them to do more to address a surge of antisemitism and harassment on the popular video service. It was led by Adam Presser, TikTok’s head of operations, and Seth Melnick, its global head of user operations. The executives said they wanted to know more about what the creators were experiencing to improve the app, according to a recording of the meeting obtained by The New York Times. “What is happening at TikTok is it is creating the biggest antisemitic movement since the Nazis,” Mr. Cohen, who does not appear to have an official TikTok account, said early in the call. He criticized violent imagery and disinformation on the platform, telling Mr. Presser, “Shame on you,” and claiming that TikTok could “flip a switch” to fix antisemitism on its platform.

But for a variety of reasons, those facing serious crimes are most often required to serve their sentences in the United States. Image Danelo Cavalcante Credit... Chester County District Attorney's Office, via Associated PressDid U.S. law enforcement know that a fugitive from Brazil was in the United States? Mr. Cavalcante was wanted in Brazil in connection with the slaying of a man in his small town of Figueiropolis in 2017. Even if Brazil had issued an Interpol notice calling for his arrest, the United States would have had no reason to believe he was living in the United States. People who are tried and convicted of a crime in the United States must serve their time here, with rare exceptions.

It is a feeling that dancers speak of when describing the sensation of the body and mind in performance — a kind of flow. “It’s how I feel with dance and with making choreography,” Melnick said. The seed was a series of movement phrases created by Lee-Parritz, which she recorded and then played back for Melnick in extreme slow motion. “I decided to learn it as if it were happening to me that way, in slow motion,” Melnick said. “This work has a relationship to beauty and form and simplicity,” Lee-Parritz said, “but with an awareness of decay and ugliness.”

The Department of Justice has warned Texas that its border policies violate federal law. Texas' actions "violate federal law" and "present serious risks to public safety," it said. Of particular concern is a floating barrier that Texas recently placed in the Rio Grande. "This floating barrier poses a risk to navigation, as well as public safety, in the Rio Grande River, and it presents humanitarian concerns," the department said. Texas' actions "violate federal law, raise humanitarian concerns, present serious risks to public safety and the environment, and may interfere with the federal government's ability to carry out its official duties," the department said.

Reuters reported last month that the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO), known as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), was set to make that declaration on July 14, according to two sources with knowledge of the process. The designation as "possibly carcinogenic to humans" will provide an incentive to fund more rigorous research into the safety question, toxicology and cancer experts say. "We have been pushing for an IARC review for many years now." But no action was taken until 2022, after aspartame was again nominated for review by CSPI and Melnick in 2019. The research body has said "new evidence" prompted its aspartame review, without giving any details.

How we searched for proof of Trump’s storyCNN conducted a broad search for any proof for Trump’s story. These articles did not mention anything about South American mental health facilities being emptied under President Joe Biden, nor feature any quote from a doctor at any such facility. We then reached out to a pro-Trump super PAC asking for evidence for Trump’s “mental institution” story, but a spokesperson didn’t respond. We next turned to two groups that advocate for reduced immigration, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which would be good candidates to be aware of any such evidence. As a last resort, we posted Trump’s quotes on Twitter and invited the public to try to find support for them.

"Failing communist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba are driving a new wave of migration," a US official said. In total, just under 158,000 people had encounters with southwest border officials in August. "Failing communist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba are driving a new wave of migration across the Western Hemisphere, including the recent increase in encounters at the southwest US border," CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus said in a statement. More than 55,000 people from the three, ostensibly socialist regimes were encountered at the southwest border in August, per CBP. The fact that nearly half of all migrants encountered were from Nicaragua and South America, he said, represented a "staggering change."
