No one knows for sure who invented the plank, but some credit Joseph Pilates, who created the Pilates exercise regimen in the early 1900s. What is clear, however, is that the plank became the favored core exercise a decade or so ago, eclipsing the crunch and sit-up. “They also have a lot of value because they’re body weight based, so you can plank anytime, anywhere.”Maintain proper form when doing a plank. MoMo Productions/Digital Vision/Getty ImagesFinally, planks can help with a wide variety of issues outside of strength, posture and balance. You should always tighten your core muscles while planking, along with your glutes and quadriceps, the Morrow and Logue said.

Any shifts in the nation’s complex health care system, however, will not come easily, nor quickly, experts say. Policyholders rebelled because they felt they couldn’t access the care they needed, said Larry Levitt, executive vice president for health policy at KFF, a nonprofit health policy research group. “If you think health care costs are rough now, imagine them without constraints,” said Rodney Whitlock, vice president at McDermott+, a health care consulting group, and a former health policy adviser on the Senate Finance Committee under Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa. Health insurers, however, do at times backtrack when faced with intense blowback. However, there is now more bipartisan appetite on Capitol Hill to enact reforms, said Wendell Potter, a former Cigna executive and vocal critic of the health care industry.

CNN —The cold-blooded assassination of a health care CEO has uncorked a torrent of public anger at the health insurance industry. Satisfaction with health care coverage has never been high in the more than two decades during which Gallup has tracked it. Here, the government only provides health care for the neediest, through Medicaid, and older Americans, who generally qualify for government-run health coverage in Medicare. Dropping satisfaction with a notable government-run systemStruggles with health insurance are not unique to the US. Yet, the US political conversation barely turned to health insurance during the recently concluded presidential campaign, and the health care system was not at the top of voters’ concerns in public opinion polling.

WASHINGTON — Key Democratic senators are demanding answers from Mehmet Oz on his "previous advocacy for Medicare privatization," referring to his call in 2020 for putting all seniors into private insurance plans under Medicare Advantage. "Indeed, private insurers that run the Medicare Advantage program drastically overcharge for care," the senators wrote, citing analysis from the nonpartisan Medicare Payment Advisory Committee. In 2022, when Oz unsuccessfully ran for Senate in Pennsylvania, he offered a more modest platform that didn’t call for ending traditional Medicare, although he maintained his support for boosting Medicare Advantage. "Your advocacy for eliminating the Traditional Medicare program and replacing it with Medicare Advantage also raises questions about your own financial conflicts of interest," the Democrats wrote in the letter. Under your plan, UnitedHealth’s revenue from Medicare Advantage would roughly double to $274 billion annually."

A major industry group for health insurers criticized some of the social media reactions. “We, at UnitedHealth Group, will continue to be there for those who depend upon us for their health care,” the statement said. Only 43% of adults in the Commonwealth Fund survey said they or their doctor challenged an insurer’s denial of claim. UnitedHealthcare, in particular, has come under public scrutiny as it dramatically increased care denials for its Medicare Advantage enrollees. That far surpassed its competitors, including Humana, whose care denials grew 54% during the same time period.

But with Medicare Advantage plans, there are provider networks that limit the choice of doctors and hospitals from which a beneficiary may choose, he said. Call Medicare Advantage plans or medical providers directly to find out if they are still covered, as brochures can sometimes be outdated, Cubanski said. Medigap, also known as Medicare supplement insurance, provides private insurance to help pay for out-of-pocket costs not covered under original Medicare plans. But experts say the choice between private Medicare Advantage plans and government Medicare original plans is largely personal. However, Medicare Advantage enrollees may need to get prior authorization before receiving certain types of care, Cubanski said.

“Far too often, patients relying on federal government health care programs are forced to accept bureaucratic, one-size-fits-all coverage,” Crapo said. But Trump’s lack of specificity about health care could empower Oz to fill in the blanks. Oz said on an AARP questionnaire: “We can expand Medicare Advantage plans. If Oz is confirmed and chooses to push more people into Medicare Advantage, as he has pitched, he may not have too hard a time. “In our focus groups, people say they’re satisfied with both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage, and they make their choices based on different preferences,” Neuman said.

CVS Health announced on Monday that it struck a deal with dissident investor Glenview Capital for four board seats, just a few weeks after the healthcare giant ousted former chief Karen Lynch. Glenview CEO Larry Robbins will join the CVS board effective immediately, alongside three other directors, which CVS said emerged from a "productive discussion" with Glenview. CVS' board will expand to 16 members. Glenview amassed a sizable stake in the healthcare conglomerate and worked with management in the lead-up to Lynch's ouster. Elliott Management struck a deal with Southwest Airlines in October in which the activist fund secured six seats on the carrier's board.
