U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her floor exercise bronze medal Sunday by the International Olympic Committee after a scoring inquiry was deemed invalid. Chiles is the only gymnast in history to be stripped of an Olympic medal for reasons other than age falsification or failed drug tests. The bronze medal debacle is the sport's most high-profile controversy since the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the site of the biggest scandal in Olympic gymnastics history. Jordan Chiles competes during the Women's Gymnastics Floor Routine final competition at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, at the Bercy Arena in Paris, on Aug. 5, 2024. The U.S. women's gymnastics team, which initially finished fourth in 2000, was awarded the bronze medal in 2010 after the Chinese team was disqualified.

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles might lose her bronze medal. She had placed fifth before the inquiry, behind both Romanians, but received a tenth back on her final score, boosting her onto the podium. In one, the team asked that the 0.1 point penalty for stepping out of bounds on Maneca-Voinea's final score be returned because it was "given without basis." It also requested that Chiles, Maneca-Voinea and Bărbosu all be placed in third and earn bronze medals. If she had not received the deduction, Maneca-Voinea would have scored higher than Bărbosu and Chiles, even after Chiles' score was increased on appeal.

It was a familiar scene Friday for Team USA in the men's 4x100-meter relay, as their formidable speed was halted once again by a botched baton pass. MyKayla Skinner posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday calling on Simone Biles to stop her 11.8 million followers from “cyberbullying” her after Biles appeared to clapback at comments by Skinner. “To Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to please put a stop to this," Skinner said in Tuesday's video. A few days after her comments in June, Skinner posted an apology on social media. After Biles' Instagram post last week, Skinner reportedly blocked the 11-time Olympic medalist on social media, according to an Instagram story posted by Chiles and a post on X by Biles. The edited photo implied that Skinner should have made the 2016 U.S. Olympic team over Douglas, who became the first Black Olympic all-around champion in 2012.

Suni Lee held down the fort as the only American in Sunday's uneven bars final, earning a bronze and successfully defending her podium finish in Tokyo. Lee had very specific goals in mind for her Olympic encore: a team gold medal, an all-around podium finish, a bars medal and a gold medal on the balance beam. Her gold is the country's first Olympic medal in gymnastics and the first Olympic gymnastics medal for an African nation. The conflict involved contentions over where the uneven bars prodigy would train and allegations that Nemour’s coach was overworking the 17-year-old. Lee and Simone Biles will contend for a beam medal Monday, which is the final day of gymnastics in Paris.

He won bronze on the pommel horse, performing a more difficult routine than in the team final and scoring a 15.300. In the team final, Nedoroscik faced a grueling 2½-hour wait on the sidelines before he could perform his one routine, but the circumstances could not have been more cinematic. The internet was quick to dub him “the pommel horse guy," and likened him to Super Man's alter ego, Clark Kent.
