SUZUKA, Japan, Sept 23 (Reuters) - McLaren Formula One boss Zak Brown offered to fly Oscar Piastri's mother to Japan after the Australian rookie driver put his car on the front row of the starting grid for Sunday's race at Suzuka. "I'm very happy to buy her an airline ticket," Brown told Sky Sports television after Nicole Piastri responded to a jubilant McLaren social media post with the words "anyone got a cheap flight to Japan?" From struggling to score points, McLaren are now looking quicker than engine provider Mercedes, even if well behind in the standings. "But of course I want to try and be the next Australian to break some other records or be added to those lists. A nice start, but of course, I want to be able to do more."

"I don't know about money-making machine but we are now a profitable Formula One team," he said. "(We are) very fortunate that we brought in new shareholders that enabled us to do things like the wind tunnel and the simulator. Brown became chief executive of McLaren Racing in 2018 as part of a major restructuring of the second most successful team in the sport in terms of wins. McLaren Racing are part of the McLaren Group, which includes the supercar manufacturer and is majority-owned by Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat. The papaya orange and blue car has been designated the MCL60, a break from previous naming convention, to mark the anniversary of the founding of McLaren Racing by New Zealander Bruce McLaren in 1963.
