CNN —A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with three cases in Birmingham, Alabama, last month, including a mass shooting that left four people dead and 17 others wounded in the city’s lively entertainment district, police announced. “Today was a major step toward justice,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin in a statement following the arrest. Then, within 24 hours of the mass shooting, police say McDaniel was connected to the shooting death of Jamarcus McIntyre, who was found fatally shot on a sidewalk. After the mass shooting, the mayor said gun violence has reached an “epidemic level” in Birmingham.
