Week 3 of the NFL season was filled with impressive wins — some big-time comebacks, teams getting their first victory of the season and more. Here are the teams who came away with the biggest wins of the week. It was a baffling home performance for the Raiders one week after they upset the Ravens. Dalton’s performance not only saves the season for Carolina; it raises even more questions about how poor Young’s performance was in the first two weeks. Niners signal-caller Brock Purdy had an impressive stat line — 22 of 30 for 292 yards and three scores — but couldn’t put away the game late.

Before the refinancing, Peloton would have needed to pay around $800 million toward its debt by November 2025. Now that it has refinanced, Peloton has eased investor concerns about liquidity and has the breathing room it needs to try to turn around its business. Peloton faces risks aheadWhile the refinance may have bought Peloton some time, it's far from a panacea. Under the terms, Peloton will now be spending about $133 million annually in interest, up from around $89 million previously. As of the end of March, Peloton had about 6.6 million members — woefully behind that long-term target.

The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it has identified "additional allegations" against Rep. Matt Gaetz "that merit review," as it continues to investigate the Florida Republican over claims of what it called "sexual misconduct and illicit drug use." The Ethics Committee said it is now eyeing claims that Gaetz — who denies wrongdoing — "dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct." The ethics panel also said it had difficulty in obtaining relevant information from Gaetz and others since the probe began in April 2021 amid a federal criminal sex trafficking investigation of Gaetz and a friend, Joel Greenberg. "During the course of its investigation, the Committee has also identified additional allegations that merit review," despite the difficulty of getting information from Gaetz, the Ethics Committee said. Gaetz's fate and the outcome of the ethics probe carry more weight now that Republicans have only a paper-thin majority in the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Mike Johnson can blame his problems on his predecessor, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Anyone may have struggled to wrangle this slim Republican majority. He offered three seats on the powerful House Rules Committee to more conservative members. The Rules Committee keeps the House moving, but Johnson has been forced to maneuver around it in the face of likely opposition to major bills. AdvertisementFor months, the House has been sitting on a bill that would provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian funding for Gaza. But many, if not most, House Republicans are opposed to further Ukraine aid, and House Speaker Mike Johnson now has to deal with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's threat to call a vote on his ouster if he allows more Ukraine aid to pass. AdvertisementMany Republicans oppose Ukraine aid, while Democrats are increasingly skeptical of Israel aidJohnson's plan is aimed at addressing two separate pockets of opposition to the foreign aid package. After October 7, the Biden administration and Senate leaders insisted on tying Israel and Ukraine aid together, with the idea being that including Israel aid would incentivize Republicans to swallow more Ukraine aid. Johnson's plan is designed to allow progressive Democrats to vote against Israel aid, while hard-right Republicans can vote against the Ukraine aid — all while allowing the whole package to move forward.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is threatening to oust Mike Johnson from the speakership. It could actually backfire on her — and make it more likely that Ukraine aid gets passed. Democrats could easily save Johnson, and many have named a vote on Ukraine aid as their price. So by filing her resolution on Friday in protest of Johnson's handling of government funding, Greene just handed a whole lot of leverage to House Democrats. Or it could mean individual votes on Ukraine and Israel aid, as Johnson has indicated he would like to see.

Before House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., can exhale, he will have to face the House Republican hardliners of the Freedom Caucus. Johnson is already in hot water with the Freedom Caucus for his concessions to pass the budget bill and avert a government shutdown. "I think Speaker Johnson — I've been public about this — made a mistake," said Roy. Compromising with Democrats was one of the central grievances that led to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's ouster from his post. Republicans are expected to hold the seat easily, and the party’s fragile majority in the chamber is not at stake. The district, which cuts through the Central Valley farm belt including parts of Bakersfield and Fresno, is the most strongly Republican seat in heavily Democratic California. Fong and Boudreaux have advanced to the November election in that contest. The special election only covers the time remaining in McCarthy’s term, running through early next year. Read previewAfter four months of failed votes, retirements, and shrinking the party's already-narrow majority, House Republicans are feeling the harsh effects of ousting then-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy from his leadership role in October 2023. Before obtaining the speakership, his highest leadership experience came from his nearly three years as the vice chair of the House Republican Conference, where he had scant experience raising money and campaigning for other Republicans. Because of this narrower majority, Johnson has an increasingly difficult job getting House Republicans to vote in lockstep — practically the only way the conference can pass legislation without relying on Democratic votes. McCarthy also had ample experience fundraising and propping up trailing candidates, attributes that could've helped New York special election candidate Mazi Pilip on Tuesday. House Republicans rammed through the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. AdvertisementHouse Republicans on Tuesday rammed through the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, marking a historic moment exactly a week after an embarrassing failure. Three Republicans, Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado, Tom McClintock of California, and Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, joined House Democrats in voting against the measure. The last time Congress impeached a Cabinet secretary was in 1876 when lawmakers impeached former Secretary of War William W. Belknap. Biden has emphasized how the White House tried to strike a bipartisan border-Ukraine deal only for former President Donald Trump and House Republicans to nuke the agreement shortly after its public announcement.

In a matter of minutes, Republicans failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. For days after gaining the majority, the GOP was unable to secure enough votes to make Kevin McCarthy House speaker. Between those two events, House GOP leaders lost control of the floor multiple times. Fourteen Republicans joined House Democrats in opposing the aid to Israel, a result that once would have been stunning considering the decades of bipartisan support for the nation. Now, it's just another reminder of how much of a mess Congress, and in particular, House Republicans, have become.
