The AI cloud-computing organization, called Voltage Park, has 24,000 Nvidia H100 chips, Voltage Park CEO Eric Park told Reuters in an interview. The operation plans to offer long- and short-term, low-cost AI computing to help alleviate the shortage of AI chips. Voltage Park plans to set up clusters of the Nvidia AI chips in Texas, Virginia and Washington. After the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT last year, demand for Nvidia's advanced AI silicon soared as businesses scrambled for chips to power their AI ambitions. Intel , Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O) and a host of startups sell competing AI chips that are also in heavy demand.

Nor is it clear how much a trip to the proposed space station would cost visitors, which could include professional astronauts or tourists. NASA, along with its global partners, is seeking to use a privately developed space station to replace the aging International Space Station, which has been continuously inhabited in low-Earth orbit since 2000. But the other key partner on the International Space Station, Russia, has said it will only guarantee participation through 2028. “The Dragon team and the team and leadership (at SpaceX) really want to build a Falcon 9-based space station,” said Max Haot, Vast’s president. Later, the company plans to attach the spacecraft as a module to a larger space station.

Space station company Vast announced on Tuesday it has acquired fellow startup Launcher in a move that effectively triples the former's headcount and expands its suite of tech and IP. "Building a space station is this complex undertaking, and you need a lot of people to do it," Vast founder and CEO Jed McCaleb told CNBC. Vast aims to build human habitats with artificial gravity, a step more ambitious than the existing zero gravity environment of the International Space Station, or of other private stations underway. Headquartered in Long Beach, California, at a 115,000-square-foot facility, Vast was stood up last year by McCaleb, who made his fortune in cryptocurrency. Before launching Vast, McCaleb first dipped into the space industry in 2021, joining the board of Firefly Aerospace after an investment through a non-profit he founded called the Astera Institute.
