Congaree National Park — South CarolinaYou can kayak in Congaree National Park.
Jonathan A. Mauer/ShutterstockSouth Carolina’s Congaree National Park is home to one of the country's largest expanses of old-growth forest.
But the park is best explored from a kayak or canoe when it floods.
The park is free to visit and open year-round, but because this is South Carolina, expect heat, humidity, and mosquitos in the summer.
Unsurprisingly, fall, winter, and spring are the best time to visit.
