COMEBACK KIDSSan Francisco reached the Super Bowl thanks to an epic comeback against Detroit in the NFC title game. The only other comeback that big in either a Super Bowl or NFL championship game was the Patriots' rally from 28-3 down to beat Atlanta 34-28 in overtime in Super Bowl 51. That didn't stop them from becoming a dominant traveling show on the way to a fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons.

Meanwhile, two indoor farming companies that attracted strong startup money — New Jersey's AeroFarms and Kentucky's AppHarvest — filed for bankruptcy reorganization. Advocates say growing indoors uses less water and land and allows food to be grown closer to consumers, saving on transport. Tom Kimmerer, a plant physiologist who taught at the University of Kentucky, has tracked indoor farming alongside his research into the growth of plants both outdoors and inside. He said some companies may be struggling to scale up, with problems that come from launching in spaces that aren't necessarily built specifically for indoor farming. Several of the companies say they're on the right track.

The Indianapolis Colts — who have relied on past-their-prime quarterbacks (Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan) or reclamation projects (Carson Wentz) since Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement before the 2019 season — selected Florida’s Anthony Richardson with the fourth pick. The Seattle Seahawks possessed two first-round picks because of last year’s Russell Wilson trade, which has become like an overflowing gift basket for them. The Seahawks selected Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon fifth overall and Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba 20th overall. Smith-Njigba caught 95 passes in 2021 but battled a hamstring injury throughout last season. The Las Vegas Raiders selected Texas Tech defensive lineman Tyree Wilson with the seventh pick.

The previous record for the biggest comeback in NFL history was set by the Buffalo Bills in 1993 when they erased a 35-3 third quarter deficit to beat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime of a wild card playoff game. The victory also handed Indianapolis quarterback Ryan the dubious distinction of having been on the losing end of both the largest comeback in Super Bowl history and NFL history. Matt Ryan doesn’t remember the moment he was inducted into one of professional basketball’s most exclusive clubs. The last of them, a sideways-falling heave from the corner, forced overtime in what would become a much-needed L.A. win. But Ryan’s entrée into statistical immortality came in the second quarter, when he flipped a pass to LeBron James, who canned a 17-foot jumper. There have been 145 game-tying, at-the-horn shots in the past 20 NBA seasons, according to Stats Perform. Just 12 players, on the other hand, have recorded a single career assist to the man who will soon break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record.
The Seahawks have won three of their last four while the Giants are on a four-game win streak. The Colts beat their division rivals 34-27 thanks to a last-gasp touchdown from quarterback Matt Ryan to rookie Alec Pierce. Just last week, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones earned NFC Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Jaguars. The Jaguars played in London just last year, when quarterback Trevor Lawrence became the first rookie quarterback to win a regular season game in London.
