Leppard said his clients only spoke to the Ethics Committee after receiving a subpoena and would only testify in public "with a valid legal subpoena that requires them to speak." But he said he would prefer to get that information either through the House Ethics Committee report or from the Justice Department. But, he added, that getting a copy of the House Ethics Committee report would be “the right starting point, politically balanced and complete. Wild and other Democrats on the House Ethics Committee want the report released to the public — or at least sent to Senate Judiciary members for their review. “I have not dictated anything to the Ethics Committee.

And by the way, I do believe that President Trump has the ability to pick some really, really good people. We've seen what they've done to President Trump, we've seen the attacks that they continue to go after him with. That's - that’s being taken completely out of context. And President Trump hasn't been the one that weaponized the DOJ to go after his political enemies. I think that's a pretty controversial pick, from whatever pronoun that he or he - he or she decides to use.

In today’s edition, senior national political reporter Sahil Kapur examines the way Democrats can still exert some power in Donald Trump's Washington. How Democrats can still flex power in Trump’s WashingtonBy Sahil KapurRepublicans have won full control of Washington, but Democrats will retain two key levers of power to shape legislative outcomes in Donald Trump’s second term. That margin is slimming further as Trump plucks House members for administration jobs. The last two years showed how chaotic and dysfunctional this GOP-controlled House can be, even when the stakes are low. The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over only sitting House members.

As Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz continues to circulate a drafted resolution saying former President Donald Trump didn't "engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof," retired DC Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone isn't surprised. "It's another example of Matt Gaetz's endless ass-kissing campaign to ingratiate himself with Donald Trump," he told Business Insider Friday morning. In late January, the Daily Mail reported Gaetz's office had begun sending emails of the resolution to members of the House who've endorsed Trump's reelection campaign. Gaetz has yet to file the resolution, but Politico reported that same day it would likely be coming soon. The House voted to vacate the Office of the Speaker on Tuesday, booting Kevin McCarthy from his job. The House, under interim speaker Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, will now have to hold speaker elections once again, and it's not clear where that will lead. In 1910, House Speaker Joseph Cannon called the motion himself as he faced a mutiny from his own party, daring his own members to oust him. The Saturday measure, while supported by most House Republicans, ultimately passed with more Democratic than Republican votes. Gaetz and dozens of other House Republicans — potentially more than half — oppose sending more aid to the besieged country.

That’s why, today, I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said. The confrontation could trigger a government shutdown in the coming months – a potential political headache for McCarthy heading into an election year. So even if he wanted to initiate impeachment against Biden to save himself, McCarthy may not have the power to do it. It’s often been impossible to see a clear path ahead in which McCarthy can appease competing political forces with the minuscule majority Republicans secured in last year’s midterm elections. Ahead of an autumn that could turn into a political migraine for McCarthy, he is back in a familiar position.
