A CBS News interview destroyed any chance that Kevin McCarthy had in keeping his job as speaker. But ahead of the vote, McCarthy said that he wasn't entertaining any major concessions from the minority party. After Democratic leaders showed the "Face the Nation" interview to members on Tuesday, McCarthy's remarks angered members from across the party's ideological spectrum. Amodei chatted with Insider about her approach to trust and safety and what the future holds for AI. However, the majority of Anthropic cofounder and president Daniela Amodei's career has been spent trying to prove the opposite: that trust and safety is a feature, not a bug. "It's an organizational structure question, but it's also a mindset question," she told Insider. In 2020, Amodei and six other OpenAI employees, including her brother Dario Amodei, left the company to start rival AI lab Anthropic. Throughout Anthropic's growth, the company has kept an interdisciplinary culture, with employees whose experiences range from physics to computational biology to policywriting, Amodei told Insider.

Here are the states that offer time off from work to cast your ballot. Currently 22 states and the District of Columbia offer employees paid time off to vote. There are seven states that offer unpaid time off. There are 20 states that still do not offer any time off accommodations for employees looking to vote early or on Election Day. Make sure to check the laws in your state and alert your employer in advance if you plan to take time off to cast your ballot.
Federal law doesn't require employers to give employees any time off to vote, much less paid time off. Instead, the laws vary from state to state: Just 29 states and the District of Columbia currently require employers to give employees time off to vote in general elections. Only 23 of them require that you actually get paid for that time, and those rules also vary by state. Some require up to three hours of paid time off, while other states leave it up to employers to determine what constitutes a "reasonable amount of time to vote." That leaves 21 states where your employer is not required to offer you any time off in order to cast your ballot next week.
PHILADELPHIA/WILMINGTON, Oct 28 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will make a rare appearance together on the campaign trail in Philadelphia on Friday as the duo seeks to boost Pennsylvania Democrats in the closing stretch of the Nov. 8 midterm election. Biden will return to Pennsylvania again next week with former President Barack Obama, underscoring the urgency Democrats feel to replace retiring Republican Senator Pat Toomey. Biden and Harris will speak at the Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s annual Independence Dinner, a major state party event expected to raise more than $1 million. Biden’s 2020 rival, Trump, and his potential adversary in 2024, is expected to campaign in Pennsylvania next weekend as well.
