London CNN —Mars has agreed to buy Kellanova in a deal that values the maker of Cheez-It and Pringles at almost $29 billion. The mega-deal will create a global snacks behemoth, adding a bevy of new nibbles to Mars’ portfolio of brands, which includes Snickers, M&M’s, and the Mars bar. “The Kellanova brands significantly expand our snacking platform, allowing us to even more effectively meet consumer needs and drive profitable business growth,” Andrew Clarke, global president of Mars Snacking, said in a statement. The Kellanova acquisition ranks in the top 10 global food and beverage mergers and acquisitions since 1995, according to Dealogic. The Kellanova deal is expected to close in the first half of next year, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

Family-owned candy giant Mars, whose brands include M&M's and Snickers, said on Wednesday it would buy Cheez-It and Pringles maker Kellanova in a nearly $36 billion deal, making it the biggest deal in the packaged food industry. Mars will pay $83.50 per share in an all-cash deal for Kellanova, representing about a 33% premium to Kellanova's close on Aug. 2, before Reuters first reported that Mars was exploring a deal for the Pringles maker. Kellanova, which split from WK Kellogg last October, is rooted in a salty snacks business and sells cereal outside of North America. WK Kellogg was left with the North American cereal business of Kellogg, the original parent company. Kellanova logged net sales of more than $13 billion in 2023.

Thirlwell stands to make £91 million ($112 million) and Harris £53 million ($65 million) from the Bounty and Mars maker's offer. Hotel Chocolat has 131 stores in the UK. Mars would keep the company "special" while helping it grow, Clarke told Bloomberg, including opening more Hotel Chocolat stores in the UK.

LONDON — U.S. food giant Mars said Thursday that it will buy British chocolatier Hotel Chocolat for £534 million ($662 million), as the brand seeks to boost its international presence. "We know our brand resonates with consumers overseas, but operational supply chain challenges have held us back. The announcement sent shares of London Stock Exchange-listed Hotel Chocolat soaring more than 160% in early deals to 366.50 pence by 9:30 a.m. local time Thursday. Hotel Chocolat is primarily U.K.-based, with 124 shops domestically and several others overseas. "We are confident that Mars will be an excellent long-term home for Hotel Chocolat, providing a like-minded, entrepreneurial and purpose-led environment in which to maximize the potential of the Hotel Chocolat brand which is already so beloved by consumers," Andrew Clarke, global president of Mars Snacking, said in a statement.

NEW YORK, July 5 (Reuters) - Family-owned food giant Mars Inc on Wednesday agreed to buy Kevin's Natural Foods, which is known for its sous-vide meals, sauces, and side dishes, the companies said. McLean, Virginia-based Mars, which generates about $48 billion in annual sales, has three major businesses - Mars Petcare, Mars Snacking, and Mars Food & Nutrition. After the deal is completed, Kevin's will operate as a standalone brand under the food and nutrition unit. Mars plans to grow its food business through more potential acquisitions in the near term, said Shaid Shah, global president at Mars Food & Nutrition. McCray launched Kevin's after he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, as he wanted to build a food brand that focused on healthy diets.
