Now that the election is over, and a change at the FTC seems highly likely, Wall Street is getting ready for a new era. "In my opinion, bank M & A has reopened for every bank absent the globally systemically important banks," Mills told CNBC. DFS 1M mountain Shares of Discover Financial rallied sharply after the election of Donald Trump. The merger between those two companies was blocked by a judge and then dropped this past week , but both companies could be players moving forward. There's still a populist tone in the Trump campaign … and enforcement, in my opinion, is not going to go away.

Traders work on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), after Republican Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election, in New York City, U.S., November 6, 2024. U.S. stocks slid on Thursday, as fresh comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled that economic strength could warrant some patience with future rate cuts. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 189 points, or 0.4%, after falling more than 250 points at the lows of the session. "The strength we are currently seeing in the economy gives us the ability to approach our decisions carefully," Powell said. Those moves come after the October producer price index released Thursday rose 0.2%, matching forecasts from economists polled by Dow Jones.

Although it is very volatile and exhibits wild swings, in the 1-year daily chart shown below, it becomes evident how confined its movement is within a well-defined trading range. Whenever it breaches one of these levels, it quickly stabilizes in a new trading range. Based on this analysis, I am considering a bearish set-up while keeping the top of its current trading range in mind. The trade Given the bearish outlook, I'm using a call credit spread as my trade structure. If the index stays below $2,260 by the expiration date, the trade will yield an ROI of 42% on the capital risked.

After a difficult two years for small cap stocks, the sector finally appears on path for a comeback, according to Citi Research head of U.S. equity strategy Scott Chronert. The small cap benchmark Russell 2000 index is up 4.3% week to date alone amid a 9.4% rally in July. As investors become more enthusiastic on the prospect of forthcoming interest rate cuts, they've started to sell off mega cap technology names — which have led the market rally — in favor of the rate-sensitive small cap sector. Banks currently have an "easier" valuation starting point, according to Chronert. The sector overall contains little exposure to tariffs — which has become a major campaign platform of former president Donald Trump.

The small-cap benchmark Russell 2000 jumped 2% on Tuesday, heading for its fifth straight winning day. Small-cap companies are especially sensitive to rate policy, as their financing costs rise when interest rates are high. Falling rates could be a boon for these names, said Kostin, Goldman's chief equity strategist, on CNBC's " Squawk on the Street ." In that period, the Russell 2000 Index has added more than 11%, compared with the S & P 500 's 4% advance. In 2024, the S & P 500 has surged more than 18%, while the Russell 2000 has added 10%.

Stock markets usually don't go up in a straight line and a pullback is possibly around the corner. With this view in mind, I am looking for a bearish trade on any of the major index ETFs. I have shown a chart of IWM which is an ETF that tracks the small-cap benchmark Russell 2000. The Trade Set-up: IWM $200-$199 Bear Put Spread With a bearish directional bias in place, all I need to do is find a suitable options structure to take a bearish trade. The trade structure I am using here is called a "bear put spread" also known as a "put debit spread".

Electric truck startup Nikola just bought battery firm Romeo Power for $144 million. Just weeks after completing its $144 million acquisition of Romeo Power, Nikola Motors laid off 45 employees of the young battery firm, the company confirmed to Insider. Cypress, California-based Romeo Power is a fledgling battery pack maker that went public via SPAC in December 2020. The Romeo employees whom Nikola later let go included nine corporate executives serving in what Brady called "duplicative roles." Are you a current or former Nikola or Romeo Power employee?
Trevor Milton, founder of Nikola, center, leaving court in New York last week. He is charged with securities fraud and wire fraud. Nikola CEO Mark Russell told a New York federal jury Monday that he had concerns about joining the electric-truck company because he believed its founder, Trevor Milton , “was prone to exaggeration in public statements.”Testifying in Mr. Milton’s securities-fraud trial, Mr. Russell said that before coming on board in 2019 as president of Nikola, he and Mr. Milton reached an agreement that Mr. Russell would become the chief executive officer if Nikola became a publicly traded company. Mr. Russell said he sought the arrangement because as head of a public company, statements from the CEO needed to be accurate.
