AdvertisementTwo of the reported candidates for Treasury Secretary made their fortunes on Wall Street, including billionaire Apollo CEO Marc Rowan. Eligible federal appointees can defer capital gains taxes indefinitely when they sell stock or other assets in order to avoid a conflict of interest. As a top earner in New York, they would normally have to pay more than $3 million in capital gains taxes. The sum that would have been spent on capital gains taxes is now free to compound and grow. The IRS allows investors to defer capital gains taxes in other scenarios that are deemed outside their control.

AdvertisementMen far outnumber women as news influencers on social media, per a new Pew Research Center study. That gender skew is showing up again in the latest platform for news: social media. That gender gap stands out for a few reasons:First, there's a much narrower gender divide (51% male and 46% female) among working US journalists, per a 2022 Pew survey. In Pew's analysis, there was a much smaller (and flipped) gender gap in the overall audience for news content on social media among young people. YouTube had the biggest gender gap, while TikTok's was minimalThe gender divide among news influencers was fairly consistent across all platforms in Pew's study.

AdvertisementPaul spent much of the fight dancing around Tyson with his arms arrogantly low, taunting the legendary knockout artist to come close. Hardly anyone, conversely, will be calling for a rematch of the main event between Paul and Tyson. The YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul was far quicker in his combinations, far twitchier in his reflexes and far more fluid in his combinations, using his three-inch height advantage to keep Tyson out of range. But despite the exhibition-like rule changes, the fight was certainly spirited, with Paul sticking his tongue out to mock Tyson at one point. At the weigh-ins Thursday, Tyson delivered a stiff slap to Paul after Paul appeared to step on one of his feet.

For the second time, Taylor defeated Serrano via a decision that left more fans questioning the scorecards than praising Taylor’s skills. “She kept head butting me, but we knew that from the very beginning from the first fight,” Serrano said in the ring. Serrano kept Taylor circling on her back foot through the first five rounds as the bout turned into a streetfight — exactly what Serrano wanted. Taylor won the initial bout two years ago by weathering a surge from Serrano in its middle stages. This time, Serrano left no room for Taylor to come back.

At 58 years old, Tyson will fight Jake Paul, the 27-year-old YouTube-star-turned-boxer who wasn’t even born when Tyson’s career was in its prime. It’s Tyson’s first sanctioned professional match since 2005. Lewis largely controlled the fight, as the champion survived Tyson’s round one onslaught and controlled the pace with strong jabs. The loss accelerated the end of Tyson’s professional career. His final professional bout — until Friday’s against Paul — came against McBride in 2005.

Trump’s transition team includes close to 100 people, with some working at Mar-a-Lago and others at the campaign office in Palm Beach and in Washington. WASHINGTON — Over the last two years, a narrow Republican House majority has fought bitterly over everything from electing a speaker, keeping the government functioning and even passing symbolic messaging bills. Now, Republicans have clinched at least 218 seats to win a House majority, NBC News projects, but it’ll be another small one. “The House has always been a chaotic place, will always be a chaotic place. And here in the Senate, obviously, we continue to have a number of tools to exercise.”There is precedent for a narrow House majority delivering major legislation. ‘Trump is so volatile’Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., a former House majority leader, told NBC News that nobody knows what to expect from the new GOP trifecta.

Courtesy Green Lake County Sheriff's OfficePodol said the investigation took a turn when it was discovered that Borgwardt’s passport was “run” on Aug. 13., the day after he disappeared. CNN —From his seaside Florida resort, Donald Trump is holding a casting call to fill the toughest job in Washington: attorney general. Current and former Justice officials anticipate eventual departures in some parts of the department and employees being sidelined and forced out. The Justice Department is also charged with defending administration actions in court, covering issues from health care to the environment to gun control. “Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes,” he wrote in a Twitter post in July 2017. Trump told Fox Business in 2020 that Barr should indict Obama, Biden and others because of the Russia investigation.

A firebrand legal adviser to the President-elect and a conservative lawyer under consideration for the post of Attorney General appear to be setting the stage for investigations and prosecution of Donald Trump’s legal adversaries, including Special Counsel Jack Smith and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The threats come as Trump campaign aides say that the president-elect considers his choice for attorney general to be his most important single appointment. Paoletta is among several people under consideration to run the Justice Department, people familiar with the matter tell NBC News. All of those people have claimed—without citing any specific evidence— that the federal prosecutions of Trump by Smith were politically motivated. The Trump Justice Department will have access to every text, email and memo written by everyone on the Smith team on government phones and computers during the investigation.
