An unopened, original Apple iPhone from 2007 fetched nearly $200,000 at auction. The 4 GB first-generation iPhone sold for $190,372, blowing past sales estimates of $50,000 to $100,000. The sale price is more than 317 times the iPhone's original price of $599. The sale shattered the record set in February, when an unopened, first-generation 8 GB iPhone sold at auction for $63,356.40. The original iPhone sold at auction Sunday belonged to a member of the original engineering team at Apple when the iPhone first launched.

A first-generation iPhone from 2007 is headed to auction, where it's estimated to fetch as much as $100,000. The unopened 4GB iPhone, still in its original packaging, hits the auction block Friday. First-generation iPhones have been fetching record prices at recent auctions — and another one is hitting the block. LCG Auctions is listing a factory-sealed, 4GB original iPhone that the auction house estimates could fetch between $50,000 and $100,000. In addition to the 4GB iPhone, a factory-sealed 8GB original iPhone will also hit the auction block Friday; LCG estimates it will fetch $45,000 to $65,000.

Cosmetic tattoo artist Karen Green was gifted a first-generation iPhone in 2007 but never opened it. Now, she's putting it up for auction, where it's expected to fetch at least $50,000, more than 80 times its original price. Last year, another factory-sealed original iPhone auctioned for nearly $40,000. When she heard of another original, unopened iPhone listing on eBay for $10,000, she took note. The device was in fact unopened and the original iPhone.
That's how much the bidder paid this weekend for a factory-sealed model of the first-edition iPhone — their winning bid topped out at $39,339.60. The 8GB smartphone was sold by LCG Auctions on Sunday. Steve Jobs first unveiled the original iPhone in 2007, and Apple quickly sold millions of units. In addition to the 8GB of storage the phone also featured a 2-megapixel camera. For context, the base model of the recently-released iPhone 14 has 128GB of storage and sports a 12-megapixel main camera with an ultra wide lens.
