McDonald's makes as much money from chicken products as from beef burgers, its CEO said Monday. We've also added smoked chicken wings, and that was a direct response to Gen Z." Taco Bell's former CEO Mark King told Bloomberg that its Gen Z customers were increasingly opting for chicken over beef. Taco Bell is stepping up its breakfast game to compete with McDonald's. But lately, fast-food chains such as Wendy's and Taco Bell have demonstrated that they want to steal breakfast customers from McDonald's. So I decided to put the breakfast menus of McDonald's and Taco Bell to the test. McDonald's and Taco Bell have more than a dozen breakfast items on their menus. Taco Bell leans into burritos and breakfast wraps, while the McDonald's menu is heavy on breakfast sandwiches.

LONDON, July 21 (Reuters) - British retail sales rose more than expected in June, boosted by unusually hot weather and a rebound in food sales after a dip the month before when public holidays disrupted normal spending patterns, official figures showed on Friday. Retail sales volumes in June were 0.7% higher than in May, the Office for National Statistics said, a bigger increase than the 0.2% forecast by economists in a Reuters poll. Sales volumes were 1.0% lower than a year earlier, beating economists' forecasts for a 1.5% decline. "Retail sales grew strongly, with food sales bouncing back from the effects of the extra bank holiday, partly helped by good weather, and department stores and furniture shops also having a strong month," ONS chief economist Grant Fitzner said. The ONS data showed a 7.8% annual rise in the value of retail sales excluding fuel.

Economic output fell 0.1% in May from April, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said, after growth of 0.2% in the previous month. All sectors of the economy contracted with the exception of services, which showed no growth. Finance minister Jeremy Hunt said high inflation continued to hamper the economy and he called for patience in bringing it down. Some companies in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector said they had benefited from the extra bank holiday, as well as hotels and restaurants, the ONS said. Britain's economy often shows some rebound in subsequent months when output is temporarily dented by extra bank holidays.

And where they can, Gen Zers like to get their chicken spicy, too. Or a restaurant exec who's noticed interesting dining patterns among your Gen Z customers?
LONDON, May 7 (Reuters) - King Charles will attend a music concert featuring the likes of singers Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli at Windsor Castle on Sunday after street parties are held across Britain as part of celebrations to mark his coronation. The royals have not been seen since an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the coronation, but senior members will be out in force in Sunday. The king's younger brother Prince Edward, his sister Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Charles' other brother Prince Andrew, will attend 'Big Lunch' events, joining some of the estimated 50,000 thousand street parties being held around the country. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will also be among those hosting a coronation lunch with the guests including Ukrainian families and youth groups. "Come rain or shine, thousands of friends and neighbours are coming together this weekend to put up the bunting, pour the tea and cut the cake at street parties and community events across the UK," he said in a statement.

LONDON, April 16 (Reuters) - Around 5,000 members of the British armed forces will participate in the coronation of King Charles next month, joined by soldiers from more than 30 Commonwealth countries to form one of the largest ceremonial military operations in decades. Charles will be crowned at London's Westminster Abbey on May 6 in a ceremony resplendent with pomp and pageantry, with traditions dating back 1,000 years. Gun salutes will sound out across the country to mark the moment the king is crowned, before military personnel later conduct a flypast of more than 60 aircraft. Buckingham Palace said Charles had also been involved in the commissioning process and details of the music programme, with film composer Patrick Doyle writing a coronation march and Andrew Lloyd Webber a coronation anthem. Yum Brands, the parent of Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, hosted an investor day conference Tuesday. Taco Bell CEO Mark King spoke about competing with McDonald's at breakfast and lunch. His playbook: make fries a forever menu item, and "commit" to breakfast. During the pandemic, Taco Bell lost momentum at breakfast when it temporarily paused the morning meal offering as offices shut down. Six years later, the Southern California-based chain, known for its Millennials and Gen Z appeal, added Nacho Fries to its menu.
