Pierre Vandier told Defense News they will monitor and protect critical underwater infrastructure. NATO is planning to roll out a fleet of uncrewed naval ships to protect critical underwater infrastructure. The development comes after several incidents of critical underwater infrastructure being damaged or severed over the last three years, with Russia sometimes suspected of being behind it. NATO has since taken steps to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure and prepare for any disruptions. It created a NATO-EU task force on the resilience of critical infrastructure in January 2023, established an infrastructure coordination cell in February 2023 to map vulnerabilities, and set up the Maritime Center for Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure this May.

The UK Royal Navy's fleet flagship had to withdraw from a major NATO exercise at the last minute. HMS Queen Elizabeth had issues with its starboard propeller shaft. In 2019, HMS Queen Elizabeth was left without propulsion for days and flooded. The ship had to anchor off Britannia Royal Naval College for 24 hours to undergo repairs, per The News. The House of Commons Defence Committee called the UK military "consistently overstretched" and under "unrelenting pressure," the Independent reports.

A video shows Ukrainian naval forces raiding a Russian-occupied island in the Dnipro River. The Ukrainian forces deployed troops from the 73rd Special Forces Maritime Center to attack in two speedboats. Footage taken from a camera on the boat as well as from a drone shows the Ukrainian boats speeding towards the outpost while firing on it with a heavy machine gun. Russian boats are then deployed to the area, and the Ukrainian forces attack them using drones. The area has faced continued shelling by Russian forces ever since, according to The Kyiv Post.
