Gen X and younger voters shifted right in recent polls, favoring Trump more than they did in 2020. Democrats lost a lot of ground with Gen Z, while Republicans won Gen X by a much wider margin than in 2020. Gen Z favored Vice President Kamala Harris by 11 points, compared to 24 points for President Joe Biden. Gen X already disapproved of Biden the most among generations, per late 2023 polling from NPR, PBS NewsHour, and Marist. Are you a Gen Z who shifted right or a boomer who shifted left?

I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

ATLANTA — The election could be decided in Georgia’s fastest-growing and most ethnically diverse county. Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic pitch has heavily emphasized small-business owners, and those in Gwinnett County — one of the “Decider” counties NBC News is tracking — acknowledge they could use more support. So far, many like what Harris is offering, though some remain undecided just over a week before Election Day. The county is exceptionally diverse, with no single ethnic group comprising more than a third of residents, according to 2020 census data. She also kicked off an “Economic Opportunity Tour” in Atlanta this summer, highlighting the administration’s economic accomplishments for Black communities.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic Rep. Colin Allred traded quippy one-liners and clashed over policy Tuesday at their first and only debate in a Texas Senate race debate that both candidates agree is up for grabs. Cruz presented himself as a conservative who “will fight to keep Texas Texas,” while Allred cast Cruz as a do-nothing extremist who has not delivered for the state in his 12 years in the Senate. “When the lights went out in the energy capital of the world, he went to Cancún. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign laid out what it sees as her path to victory in Pennsylvania in a memo shared exclusively with NBC News ahead of Monday night’s rally in bellwether Erie County. “The Harris campaign’s path to win Pennsylvania capitalizes on Trump’s unprecedented weakness in the suburbs,” the memo, which also highlighted the campaign’s focus on Haley voters, reads. “They can point to the suburbs, but they’re losing ground in places like Philadelphia,” a Trump campaign official said. Kush Desai, the Trump campaign’s Pennsylvania spokesperson, highlighted Obama’s visit as a sign the Harris team was scrambling. Speaking with NBC News, Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes said he could “understand the frustration” Obama expressed.

With four weeks to go until Election Day, the 2024 polls continue to show a presidential race that remains on a knife’s edge — and well within the margin of error. It’s also true in the polls of the battleground states that will ultimately decide the presidential contest. Harris and Trump are essentially tied, perhaps with a slight lean toward Trump, in the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. And this is a fundamentally different race than the one that existed before President Joe Biden stepped aside from his re-election campaign and endorsed Harris. The 2024 race, ultimately, will be decided by turnout, concluding news events, how the third-party/undecided vote breaks and other factors.

pic.twitter.com/mcgmR3q0SU — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) October 4, 2024Former Trump 2020 staffer Matt Wolking said the Harris' campaign focus on January 6 illustrates a return to the core of what made Biden's campaign struggle. Trump's campaign blamed the media for the renewed focus on January 6. "Did Kamala Harris censor Americans from speaking their mind in the wake of the 2020 COVID situation?" Harris' campaign soon cut what Walz described as Vance's "damning non-answer" into an attack ad. "Thanks for showing up for us," Erik Hooks, the deputy administrator at the Federal Emergency Management Agency told her. Harris plans to visit areas smacked by the storm “as soon as possible without disrupting emergency response operations,” a White House official said. In North Carolina, recent polls from CNN and Marist showed Harris and Trump tied at 49-49%. Looking to capitalize on the moment, Trump has tried to paint Harris as inept in her response to the hurricane. Then there were reports that he once asked officials if he could use a nuclear bomb to destroy a hurricane.

The fight over Wisconsin — considered a must-win for Harris as part of Democrats’ so-called blue wall — could tilt the election. Tim Walz has re-energized staff members in the state, a campaign official told NBC News. With more than 200 staffers statewide, the Harris campaign touts 48 offices across Wisconsin, including some in smaller, more rural areas that Trump won in 2020. But the Trump campaign is mounting its own effort in the state. An RNC official also said the Trump campaign and the Wisconsin GOP have more than 70 staff members and 40 offices across the state.

And an expert in political violence and terrorism is worried the worst is yet to come. The justification of political violence online is getting worse, too, with increasingly high-profile people laughing off violent incidents. Plenty of such data exists about Trump's rhetoric, Pape noted, and he said there is no doubt that "incendiary political rhetoric increases support for political violence." "What you're seeing is real-world violence reflecting this significant rhetorical support for political violence on both the right and the left," Pape said. CNN —Voters keep telling pollsters that their economic insecurities are the biggest issue in the 2024 election. Former President Donald Trump will try to make a case against Kamala Harris’ role in the Biden economy on Wednesday in North Carolina. President Joe Biden dedicated his domestic agenda to restoring economic fairness and sought to revive manufacturing and repair the country’s crumbling infrastructure. As the effective incumbent in this race, Harris is vulnerable to any sudden shifts in the economic outlook. But with Trump seeking an opening to define her negatively — especially on the economy — Harris must act fast.

CNN —With less than two weeks until the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle, CNN has released additional details on the parameters agreed upon by the Trump and Biden campaigns. Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip. In order to meet CNN’s qualifications for the debate, candidates must satisfy the requirements outlined in Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution to serve as president. Both Biden and Trump meet those requirements, as do Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein, who are running on non-major-party tickets. Though not impossible in Kennedy’s case, it is less likely that candidates other than Biden and Trump will meet those requirements.
