In a letter to employees on Thursday, Boeing CEO David Calhoun said the U.S. planemaker will not fill the chief strategy officer role going forward. Boeing will shrink its strategy and corporate development organization and instead have "strategy teams directly joining the business units they support," Calhoun said. Chief Financial Officer Brian West and Mike D’Ambrose, the company's top human resources official, will create a realignment plan for the strategy unit over the next month, Calhoun said.

NEW DELHI, March 10 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) said on Friday it would set up a facility in India to convert 737 passenger planes into dedicated freighters to tap into regional and global demand for the service. The investment, which adds to the U.S. manufacturer's expansion into India on top of a record plane order by flag carrier Air India, comes despite a global economic slowdown that has weakened the global air cargo market. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said global cargo demand in January fell almost 15% year-on-year. He did provide any details about when the facility would be set up or the size of the investment. The planned facility comes amid a push by Boeing to expand in India, including a $24 million investment to set up a logistics centre for aircraft parts.
"We have to unify around the importance of bringing all advanced air mobility vehicles and operating systems to market with airliner levels of safety, with air transport levels of safety, with commercial levels of safety," he said at ICAO's Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Symposium. "There is of course significant risk that in an event involving any one of these vehicles that the whole category of advanced air mobility will be subject to penalty." Allen said regulators must approach advanced air mobility on safety in the same manner as commercial transport if air taxis are to fly over crowded, urban areas. But he added that some air taxis are being lumped into categories such as general aviation where smaller aircraft have different stringencies than larger jetliners. "To us, the more important thing is consensus on commercial safety standards," he said.
