CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday provided his take on four major stocks in the gig economy sector: Uber , Lyft , DoorDash and Instacart parent Maplebear . "After hearing from all of these companies, what I see is a confusing situation: Uber, DoorDash and Instacart are all lower after earnings, while Lyft managed to gain a bit of ground," he said. Uber: Cramer said Uber's recent quarter yielded solid results, but the ride-share company did report some weakness in bookings. Lyft: Lyft reported a good quarter, and Cramer noted that, unlike competitor Uber, it actually saw higher-than-expected bookings. After a tepid year in the IPO market, investors are hopeful 2024 will bring about a return to form. But the IPO market cratered in 2022 after the Federal Reserve's aggressive rate hiking campaign collapsed investor demand for growth stocks. But happier days could be ahead for the IPO market in 2024. According to Linqto's 2024 IPO Sentiment Survey released Thursday, only a little more than half, 52%, of 2,500 traders polled are anticipating a significant recovery in the IPO market this year, suggesting "cautious optimism" ahead. "There's a lot more optimism for the IPO market," said Akshata Bailkeri, head of research at EquityZen, a platform for pre-IPO activity.

Nov 8 (Reuters) - Instacart (CART.O) on Wednesday forecast fourth-quarter core profit above Wall Street estimates in its first earnings report since going public in September, on higher transaction and advertisement fees, sending its shares up 4% after the bell. The grocery delivery firm, whose stock has lost more than a third of its value since debut, also announced a $500 million share repurchase program. It expects current-quarter adjusted EBITDA, a key measure of profitability, to be between $165 million and $175 million. Instacart's gross transaction value (GTV) - the value of products sold based on prices shown - rose 6% over the year earlier to $7.49 billion in the third quarter. For full year 2023, Instacart anticipates GTV to grow in mid-single digits, versus analysts' estimate of 4.7% growth at $30.18 billion.

REUTERS/Cheney Orr/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 16 (Reuters) - Most Wall Street brokerages, including J.P.Morgan and Goldman Sachs, kicked off coverage on Instacart (CART.O) with a bullish view, betting on the grocery delivery app's growth amid a shift to online shopping. The stock — following a lukewarm debut in September — closed at $25.57 on Friday, below its $30 initial public offering (IPO) price. At least half of Instacart's 20 IPO underwriters have initiated coverage with their top ratings after the quiet period ended. Instacart's slow growth compared to rivals is a top concern, as a reduction in food stamp benefits and a shift back to in-store shopping could limit GTV growth, according to Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Potter. As of Friday, the six brokerages that were not involved in the IPO started coverage with an average rating of "hold", LSEG data showed.

REUTERS/Toby Melville/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Birkenstock (BIRK.N) dropped 6% on Thursday, deepening losses after the German luxury sandal seller stumbled the day before in its Wall Street debut. In its first session on Wall Street on Wednesday, Birkenstock tumbled over 12% from the $46 price set in its initial public offer, raising $1.48 billion. Last trading at about $37.79 on Thursday, the stock has now dropped 18% from its IPO price. The second-day drop in Birkenstock shares was deeper than a broad Wall Street sell-off, with the S&P 500 (.SOX) last down about 1%. Arm on Thursday slumped 5.2% to $51.70, just above its $51 IPO price on Sept. 13, while Instacart was down 1.7% at $24.52, well below its $30 IPO price on Sept. 18.

Instacart shares fall further below IPO price

Shares of Instacart, formally called Maplebear, last traded at $28.71 compared to the $30 price set in its IPO on Sept. 18. SoftBank-backed chip designer Arm Holdings fell 2.5% to $52.19, just above the $51 price in its IPO two weeks ago. After closing with a gain of 12% in its first session, Instacart has steadily lost ground. Arm's shares have also mostly declined after surging in their Wall Street debut, touching intra-day lows below $51 in three of the past five sessions. The marketing automation firm's stock remains above its $30 IPO price, but well below its intraday high of $37 in its first day of trading.

Arm surged on its first day on Wall Street and has fallen every day since then. That followed a Bernstein "underperform" rating with a $46 price target earlier this week, and a "hold" assigned to Arm by Needham and Company on Sept. 16. Neutral and negative stock ratings are much less common on Wall Street than "buy" recommendations or other positive ratings. Still, the marketing automation firm's stock remains above the $30 IPO price. The declines in Arm, Instacart and Klaviyo on Friday were in contrast to a 0.3% gain in the Nasdaq (.IXIC).

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 21 (Reuters) - Arm Holdings' stock on Thursday dipped for the first time below its initial public offering price, while short sellers appeared to be betting against the chip designer just a week after its Wall Street debut. Shares of Klaviyo (KVYO.N) which debuted on Wall Street on Wednesday, finished up 2.9% at $33.72 versus the marketing automation firm's $30 IPO price. Suggesting short sellers are betting against Arm, about 14 million of its shares were on loan, equivalent to 8% of the stock's free float, data and analytics company Ortex said. Short sellers borrow stocks to short them, and the relationship between shares on loan and shorted is normally close, according to Ortex. Arm shares appear highly shorted compared to other recent IPOs.

Shares of grocery delivery app Instacart, which debuted Tuesday, fell to a low of $29.96, below their $30 IPO price. Klaviyo also surrendered most of its initial gains, hitting a low for the day of $30.26, just above its $30 IPO price. All three indexes ended the session lower in a broad sell-off ahead of the Fed's interest rate announcement on Wednesday, which is expected to culminate in a decision to leave key interest rates unchanged. The Fed is also due to release its Summary Economic Projections, including its dot plot, which should provide a glimpse into the Federal Open Markets Committee's forecast trajectory of interest rates, inflation and economic growth. On the economic front, a jump in Canada's annual inflation rate due to rising gasoline prices, and a bigger-than-expected plunge in U.S. housing starts helped feed investor uncertainty. The IPO gave Instacart a valuation of nearly $9.9 billion, a fraction of the $39 billion it was worth in 2021, the company's last funding round. Reuters GraphicsSeveral startups' valuations have shrunk since 2022 as inflation, geopolitical tensions and the Federal Reserve's rapid rate hikes soured the economic climate. But a lukewarm reception to Neumora Therapeutics' (NMRA.O) IPO last week hinted at limited investor enthusiasm for new listings. Sept 18 (Reuters) - Grocery delivery app Instacart is planning to sell shares in its initial public offering (IPO) for $30 apiece and perhaps more, Bloomberg Newsreported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. The company is heading to the bourse almost three years after it kicked off preparations for going public. Instacart on Friday raised its proposed price range for its IPO, offering to sell 22 million shares now at $28 to $30 each compared to its previous price range of $26 to $28 each. San Francisco-based Instacart is in talks to price the shares at the top of that range or potentially higher at $31, according to Bloomberg. Instacart, which filed for the IPO as "Maplebear," declined to comment.

Sept 18 (Reuters) - Maplebear Inc , the parent of grocery delivery app Instacart, disclosed on Monday it fetched a $9.9 billion fully diluted valuation after pricing its initial public offering (IPO) at the top of its indicated range. The IPO was priced at $30 per share after the company marketed it with a range of $28 to $30 per share. The IPO raised $660 million based on 22 million shares sold. Arm's fully diluted valuation has risen to $62 billion following three days of its shares trading. These investors include Norges Bank Investment Management, a division of Norges Bank, and entities affiliated with venture capital firms TCV, Sequoia Capital, D1 Capital Partners and Valiant Capital Management.

As the Federal Reserve raised borrowing costs to tame inflation, several high-flying startups have had to raise funds at lower valuations. Instacart too has had to cut its internal valuation to as low as $10 billion in December in its long walk toward a Nasdaq debut. Instacart would join SoftBank's (9984.T) chip designer Arm and marketing automation firm Klaviyo, which are also gearing up for market debuts in September. Instacart and its selling shareholders are looking to raise up to $616 million by offering 22 million shares priced between $26 and $28 each, it said in a regulatory filing. Instacart’s mixed bag has valuation opportunities

If it doesn’t push valuation too hard, a public listing could be seamless. Instacart booked net income in 2022, a rarity for a growth company hitting the public market. That brings Instacart’s enterprise value to roughly $17 billion, less than half of what it was worth in 2021 but still higher than the internal valuation it inked last year. Follow @AnitaRamaswamy on XCONTEXT NEWSGrocery-delivery business Instacart filed paperwork to go public on Aug. 25 under the formal name Maplebear. The company, which did not share its target price range in the filing, grew revenue by 39% in 2022 to $2.6 billion.

The development comes days after SoftBank Group-backed (9984.T) chip designer Arm Holdings made public its IPO filing. Instacart said its revenue had surged to $1.48 billion in the six months ended June 30, compared with $1.13 billion in the same period last year. Net income was $242 million during the six-month period, compared to a $74 million loss a year earlier, Instacart said. Customers can order through the Instacart app, and an Instacart "shopper" delivers the product in as little as 30 minutes. Instacart, the grocery delivery company that slashed its valuation during last year's market slide, filed its paperwork to go public on Friday in what's poised to be the first significant venture-backed tech IPO since December 2021. In May, Instacart said it was leaning into the generative AI boom with Ask Instacart, a search tool that aims to answer customers' grocery shopping questions. Instacart will try and crack open the IPO market, which has been mostly closed since late 2021. In March of last year, Instacart slashed its valuation to $24 billion from $39 billion as public stocks sank. Apoorva Mehta, Instacart's founder and executive chairman, plans to transition off the board after the company's public market debut, according to a 2022 release.
