Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will crisscross the United States to visit all seven battleground states in the coming days, part of a final blitz before the Nov. 5 election. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, will spend Sunday in Philadelphia, attending church services in the morning and visiting a barbershop. Harris plans to visit North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin on Wednesday. On Thursday, Harris will be in Nevada for rallies in Reno and Las Vegas, and in Phoenix. Walz plans to campaign in Harrisburg and Erie, Pennsylvania, and Detroit.

The mother of 3-year-old Wisconsin boy Elijah Vue and her partner were charged Thursday with counts of child neglect and child abuse that resulted in the boy’s death, the Manitowoc County prosecutor said. “Elijah was a young boy whose life was tragically cut short,” Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre said at a news conference. Two Rivers Police DepartmentThe boy’s mother, Katrina Baur, is charged with chronic neglect of a child where the consequence is death; child neglect; and obstructing an officer, LaBre said. Baur and Vang had previously been charged with child neglect, but the new charges allege the boy’s death. Baur and Vang have pleaded not guilty in the earlier child abuse case.

Human remains found on private property are those of 3-year-old boy who went missing in February, authorities in Wisconsin announced Friday. Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinnert said the remains, which were tested forensically and determined to be those of Elijah Vue, were found only three miles northwest from where the child had been reported missing. “What started out as a search for a missing boy is now a death investigation,” he said. Two Rivers Police DepartmentElijah disappeared from an apartment in Two Rivers, about 90 miles north of Milwaukee. Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre said earlier this year that the child disappeared after he was sent to stay with a man because of "disciplinary reasons."

A federal judge has rejected Walmart's request for a new trial after a jury found the retailer discriminated against a longtime employee with Down syndrome by refusing to adjust her schedule and firing her. In a court filing on Monday, the judge stood by the July 2021 ruling. Spaeth's firing permanently shook up their lives and took away her sister's sense of purpose, Stevenson said. Among its arguments, Walmart said the federal agency did not prove the retailer knew Spaeth's scheduling challenges were related to her Down syndrome.
