A man who set himself on fire Friday outside the courthouse where former President Donald Trump's hush money trial is taking place has died, New York City police said early Saturday. The man, whom police identified as Maxwell Azzarello of St. Augustine, Florida, was in the designated protest area outside. It appeared to happen around the time that the jury for Trump's trial was fully empaneled — with 12 jurors and six alternates selected to sit for a trial that's expected to last about six weeks. The man who lit himself on fire outside of the Manhattan courthouse where Donald Trump’s trial was taking place died Friday night, a senior law enforcement official told CNN. NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey B. Maddrey said earlier that the man walked into the center of Collect Pond Park, which is directly across from the courthouse. He opened his backpack and took out pamphlets that he scattered in the park before setting himself on fire. The man was taken to Cornell Burn Center earlier in critical condition. Police had said they thought it was not likely that he would survive.

CNN —Four people are dead, including two children, and one person was critically injured in a stabbing in Far Rockaway, Queens, on Sunday morning, police said. Two police officers were injured responding to the home, where a fire also broke out, and the suspect is dead. The man drew a kitchen steak knife on the officers, stabbing one in the neck and chest, and striking the other in the head, the chief added. Four family members, including two children, were stabbed to death at a home in Queens early Sunday morning, the police said. Two officers who responded to the location, 467 Beach 22nd Street in the Far Rockaway neighborhood, saw a man leaving with luggage, Chief Maddrey said. When they stopped him, the man stabbed one officer in the head and the other in the neck with a steak knife before one of the officers shot him. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A man was killed by New York City police officers in the famed Coney Island area after he allegedly threatened to shoot two women, police said. Three units responded to the corner of West 36th Street and Neptune Avenue, including one police marked vehicle with two uniformed officers and two unmarked vehicles manned by public safety officers, Maddrey said. As soon as the units arrived to the corner, officers saw a male with a gun. When officers exited their vehicles to approach him, he “immediately starts shooting at the officers,” Maddrey said.
