AdvertisementApple has increasingly used its own silicon chips in its devices in recent years. Apple says it has a "secret weapon" in its approach to making the chips that power many of its devices. The company also benefits from making chips strictly for its own use rather than being a traditional chip-maker that sells to other companies, Millet said. Apple's newest Macs are based on Apple's latest silicon chips, the M4 line. AdvertisementMillet said Apple silicon takes advantage of "three major components, the architecture, the design, and the process technology."

Investors should not jump to offload Apple (AAPL) shares because of a handful of cautious reports ahead of this week's quarterly results. Jim Cramer points out that this has been happening since the first iPhone was released in 2007 and even before that. Even in high-conviction stocks like Apple, we do the homework to constantly test our investment thesis against new developments. "It's a classic negative piece on the company that crystalizes the 'hate Apple trade' that's been going on," Cramer wrote in his Top 10 Things to Watch Tuesday. Apple saw a sharp uptick in global PC market share for the second quarter of 2023, recovering from weak delivery numbers in the preceding period, according to data from IDC. The news comes amid a broadly weakening PC market. Apple's Mac computers now account for 8.6% of global market share, as the company shipped 5.3 million Mac units in the second quarter alone. That number is still markedly down relative to the quarter a year ago, which had 4.8 million Mac shipments total. It's a decline mirrored by the broader market, which experienced a total fall of 13.4% in PC shipments year over year, from 71.1 million units to 61.6 million units, according to IDC.

At Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday, Jennifer Munn, director of engineering program management, called the M2 Ultra "a monster of a chip." A St. Louis woman discovered a rather odd pet policy regarding fish while apartment hunting. According to the listing, a pet fish is allowed for a one-time fee of $200, and a monthly "pet rent" of $15, but there's strictly "no aggressive breeds" permitted. Her fellow TikTokers poked fun at the $200 fee for a fish and the restrictions against potentially aggressive fish breeds. Resource site Aquarium Source describes Oscar fish as aggressive bullies who "will attack and eat any vulnerable fish." Others shared their own stories of being charged hundreds for one fish as part of a pet policy.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported Apple engineers are developing a touchscreen for the MacBook Pro with an expected launch date of 2025, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter. While it’s unclear if the touchscreen laptop will see the light of day, introducing the product could accomplish two important things for Apple: adapting to shifting consumer expectations and supercharging sales for its Mac product line. Apple has previously kept the touchscreen away from its Mac lineup to prevent it from cannibalizing iPad sales. Now, however, Apple could use a Mac touchscreen to incentivize consumers to upgrade their computers and keep Mac sales momentum growing. When asked at a conference last fall if Apple will add a touchscreen to Macs, Federighi responded: “Who’s to say?”
Apple is set to report earnings Thursday, and some analysts covering the company expect the tech giant to show further proof of why it remains a "good hiding place" in this volatile market. But while the Mac producer grappled with a slowing economy and major supplier shutdowns in the previous quarter , analysts believe that Apple remains a safe-haven behemoth well-positioned to perform better than its peers. While trouble may lie ahead for Apple, Chatterjee expects the downside — and risks to estimates —to "be fairly limited." That said, the company remains a high-quality name to buy on any pullback in its stock, according to Huberty. And, despite a bullish longer-term outlook on Apple compared to its competitors, many analysts expect a cautious outlook from the technology company — if provided — ahead.
