New York CNN —The news was so shocking that some “Morning Joe” viewers probably spit out their coffee. MSNBC co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski “went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally” with President-elect Donald Trump, Brzezinski revealed at the beginning of Monday’s show. We are not here to defend or normalize Donald Trump,” Scarborough said. When Trump entered the presidential race in 2015, he frequently called into “Morning Joe” and schmoozed with the hosts. Trump’s defenders said he was just fighting “fire with fire” because “Morning Joe” was so critical of him.

The Boston-area university’s denial followed a reported claim by one of its professors that the political science department would no longer facilitate internships at Moulton’s office. “We have reached out to Congressman Moulton’s office to clarify that we have not — and will not — limit internship opportunities with his office,” the university said in a statement. Moulton’s office also shared a transcript of a voicemail that it said was left by Art, the contents of which were first reported by The Boston Globe. He did confirm to the Globe that he had called Moulton’s office about blocking student internships. The Harris campaign did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said Sunday that she has “no intention” of dropping the criminal case against a group of President-elect Donald Trump’s allies who sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Arizona. “I have no intention of breaking that case up. I have no intention of dropping that case,” Mayes, a Democrat, told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. Those charged include big names like former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The case is set to go to trial in 2026, but the defendants have sought to have the case dismissed.

For many Democratic voters, Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to Donald Trump was disappointing but not surprising, they said in interviews, agreeing that their party hadn't done enough to talk about the economy and lamenting lingering racism and sexism. Voters in Dearborn, America's only Arab-majority city, broke decisively for Trump over Harris, a departure from Joe Biden’s beating Trump there in 2020. "I was really praying that she would get it," said Deborah McKinnon, 68, a Black Democratic voter from Pittsburgh. "It just underscores that Black women are the most loyal Democrats, and they were the power behind Kamala Harris' campaign," Allison said. John Park, 37, a Black Democratic voter in suburban Atlanta, said that as a warehouse worker for an automotive company, he initially liked Trump's "pro-America" approach.

In Wisconsin’s hotly contested U.S. Senate race, Republican Eric Hovde has focused much of his closing messaging on attacking the finance career of Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s girlfriend, highlighting their same-sex relationship. Another Hovde campaign ad features a narrator talking about Baldwin’s relationship with Brisbane. “This is Sen. Tammy Baldwin,” the narrator says. Now vying for a third Senate term, Baldwin has said the attacks are designed to distract from her record. In states where tensions have long boiled over reproductive rights, family planning experts say women face mounting barriers to getting birth control. In June, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have enshrined a national right to birth control into law. States have been left to decide if they will protect access to birth control. The Right Time initiative is part of Michelle Trupiano's work at Missouri Family Health Council that reduces costs and helps Missourians to obtain birth control. She works at a family planning clinic that is benefiting from Title X funding, which means right now, uninsured patients can get birth control through the clinic.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday said she strongly disagrees with criticisms of groups of people based on the candidate they support. “President Biden was very clear that he’s speaking about the rhetoric we heard at that [rally] so it doesn’t undermine it," Walz said on "CBS Mornings." Harris has sought to walk a fine line in criticizing Trump while not alienating his supporters, pointing to Trump's divisive rhetoric. During an interview this month on Fox News, anchor Bret Baier asked Harris if she thought Trump voters were stupid. MIAMI — With less than two weeks before the presidential election, NBC News and MSNBC checked in with a group of voters in Florida’s Miami-Dade County, where 69% of its residents are Latino. In the six months that followed, the race changed drastically, with Biden dropping out of the race and Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. The conversation took place as Harris and Trump criss-cross the country amid an evenly split presidential race, with both candidates appealing to the growing Latino electorate in appearances at separate town halls. We wanted to know how these voters are thinking about the race now and the issues that matter to them. They also discussed the urgent need to find common ground — and lower the temperature of the political rhetoric.

CNN —Kamala Harris is responding to Democratic panic about her White House prospects by turning up the heat on Donald Trump. The vice president warned Monday that the ex-president was “unstable,” “unhinged” and out for “unchecked power” as she sent a jolt of urgency though her campaign with 21 days to go. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, meanwhile, went even further, suggesting the ex-president’s musings about using the military against domestic foes he branded “the enemy from within” could even amount to treason. An image of former President Donald Trump appears on screen as Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on October 14, 2024. Trump sought to make inroads with young men who are often low-propensity voters but who could add to his coalition.

Republicans stand a good chance of erasing the Democrats’ narrow 51-49 Senate majority in November, a hard reality that complicates Harris' transition planning. Members of Harris’ transition team have studied that one — the handoff from Ronald Reagan to George H.W. Harris' team is operating under an unusually compressed timeline and is still building the basic apparatus needed to vet potential hires and staff an administration. Last month, Harris' campaign appointed Yohannes Abraham to run the team that is preparing for a transfer of power. He came to his new role with direct experience, having been executive director of Biden’s transition in 2020.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday criticized former President Donald Trump's recent comments about reproductive rights, saying he needs to trust women to make their own decisions. WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris called former President Donald Trump's tariff proposals "a sales tax on the American people," in an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle. The questions came during Harris' first one-on-one interview with a national network since becoming the Democratic nominee. Harris has proposed expanding the child tax credit, creating a tax break for homebuilders and providing a subsidy for first-time homeowners. After wrapping up her multi-day battleground state tour, Vice President Kamala Harris will attend a major fundraiser in San Francisco on Sunday to court West Coast donors, some of whom had pulled their support for President Joe Biden after his poor debate performance in June. Harris will court Bay Area donors using her deep roots in the area and the political blessing of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco for nearly four decades in Congress and will join Harris at Sunday’s event, according to a Harris campaign official. In an interview with NBC's Andrea Mitchell on Wednesday, Pelosi said, "It wasn’t just, though, about the House. I thought it was very important, very important for us to make sure and that Donald Trump never becomes president after that debate. We just have to win the election.”She also said that she had not spoken with the president since he stepped aside.

Instead, Biden’s campaign unraveled over the course of the next 24 days. It’s a high-risk, high-reward gamble for Democrats, resetting a campaign Biden was losing with a new nominee just 107 days before the election. Dunn and her husband, Bob Bauer, were among Biden’s debate prep team and had faced the ire of the president’s family in the aftermath of the debate. Several news outlets, including CNN, reported that Pelosi and former President Barack Obama had privately expressed concerns about the future of Biden’s campaign. That same day, ABC News reported that Schumer told Biden in their Saturday meeting that it would be best if he bowed out of the presidential race.
