CNN —Concerns are mounting for the safety of United Nations peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon amid Israel’s ground incursion, UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix warned on Thursday, after Israeli fire resulted in the injury of two UN troops. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported early Thursday that the peacekeepers were injured after an Israeli tank fired toward an observation tower at its headquarters in the southern Lebanese city Naqoura. “The IDF is operating in southern Lebanon and maintains routine communication with UNIFIL,” the IDF said in a statement after Thursday’s incident. CNN —Spain, Norway and Ireland have announced plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state, in a move that is likely to bolster the global Palestinian cause but strain relations with Israel. Palestinian statehood has been recognized by more than 130 out of 193 member states of the United Nations, according to the Palestine Liberation Organization. “Today, Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognize the state of Palestine. Autorităţile au raportat miercuri un maxim record de 7.836 de cazuri. ”Lucrătorii din sănătate, deja extenuaţi, se confruntă acum cu un tsunami deinfecţii, chiar mai mare ca în primul val”, a declarat premierul Micheal Martin într-o conferinţă în care a anunţat noile măsuri, scrie News.ro. Guvernul a decis, miercuri, închiderea majorităţii şcolilor şi a şantierelor de construcţie, pentru o perioadă de cel puţin trei săptămâni, înăsprind carantina care închisese deja majoritatea unităţilor de cazare şi a magazinelor, în timp ce vizitele la domiciliu fuseseră interzise. Vicepremierul Leo Varadkar a declarat că barurile şi restaurantele din Irlanda ar trebui să fie pregătite pentru faptul că vor rămâne probabil închise până la sfârşitul lunii martie, în timp ce ţara aşteaptă livrarea a unor vaccinuri suficiente pentru a controla virusul. Numărul pacienţilor cu Covid-19 din spitalele irlandeze a atins miercuri un nivel record de 921, peste vârful de 881 atins în aprilie.

Regatul Unit şi Uniunea Europeană au ajuns la un acord privind relaţiile comerciale post-Brexit, cu doar câteva zile înainte ca Londra să iasă din piaţa unică a UE, relatează surse europene citate de marile agenţii internaţionale de presă. Negociatorii europeni şi britanici au ajuns joi, în Ajunul Crăciunului, după luni de eforturi, la un acord cu privire la viitorea relaţie a Uniunii Europene (UE) cu Regatul Unit. Anterior, un oficial francez declara că britanicii au consimţit la „concesii enorme” în negocierile acordului post-Brexit, cedând mai ales la capitolul legat de pescuit, marele punct de blocaj între cele două părţi. Cunoscutul militant britanic anti-UE, Nigel Farage, nu este mulţumit de cursul pe care îl luase în ultimele zile negocierile pentru noul acord comercial. În opinia sa, Regatul Unit va rămâne mult prea strâns aliniat regulamentelor Uniunii Europene.

Guvernul irlandez şi-a prezentat vineri planul care va permite irlandezilor să iasă din cea de-a doua lor carantină la 1 decembrie şi să petreacă Crăciunul cu familiile lor, în pofida celui de-al doilea val de COVID-19, relatează AFP, preluată de Agerpres. Vieţi au fost salvate”, a anunțat la radioteleviziunea publică irlandeză RTE premierul Micheal Martin, care a spus că începând de la 1 decembrie vor fi restricţii mai puţin aspre privind limitarea răspândirii virusului. „Flexibilizându-le, noi vom merge cât de departe posibil pentru a găsi cel mai bun echilibru între consideraţiile sanitare, economice şi sociale”, a adăugat el. Irlandezilor li se va cere să poarte măşti pe stradă şi în medii de muncă aglomerate, precum şi în lăcaşurile de cult. Până la trei familii se vor putea reuni într-un spaţiu închis.
