After Apollo CEO Marc Rowan's whirlwind candidacy for Trump's Treasury Secretary gig, questions remain about what could become of the firm after Rowan's eventual exit. Rowan also mentioned "two very, very senior partners" in the firm's retirement services business Athene. But beyond these names, Rowan said there's "another 10 in asset management and another handful in retirement services" who represent "the next generation" of Apollo executives.

That level of monitoring can be expensive, and the amount companies pay for executive security varies widely. Health insurance companies, including UnitedHealth Group, don't appear to spend as much on executive protection as some of the Big Tech giants. That amount represented $14,850 in 401(k) matching and $6,337 in health insurance premiums, with no amount indicated for personal security. CNN —The US government is rushing to uncover new information on the whereabouts of Austin Tice following the collapse of the Syrian government this weekend. The US State Department is also offering a reward of up to $10 million for information on Tice. This official told CNN that they believe the US should take this opportunity to establish a dialogue with HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani. The State Department would not say whether there has been any direct contact with Jolani, who leads a US-designated terrorist group. There is “no legal barrier” to direct communications, State Department spokesperson Miller said Tuesday.

Marc Benioff said some of its rivals are in "a race to the bottom" with "excessive" AI spending. AdvertisementSalesforce's CEO says the company isn't spending as lavishly on AI as some of its tech peers — and he isn't worried about falling behind. Instead, Marc Benioff says the company will capitalize on the vast AI spending gap between it and some of its competitors and avoid a "race to the bottom." Benioff said some of Salesforce's competitors were "excessive" with their AI spending and "it's becoming a race to the bottom for some of these companies." He also highlighted that some have invested in nuclear energy and nuclear power plants.

The swift collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian regime represents a devastating defeat for Iran, the latest in a string of setbacks that have punctured long held assumptions in the West about Tehran’s military prowess. As the rebels pressed ahead, there was no concerted effort to stop the advance with Russian warplanes or Iranian-backed proxy forces. “Assad was effectively abandoned because his only friends ... Iran, Hezbollah and Russia, no longer had the capacity to help,” the official added. The United States and other governments had feared an Israeli attack on Iran would produce an overwhelming response against Israel by Iran’s proxies. Those officers had decades of experience in Syria and a network of contacts among the militants in Iran’s proxy network, including Iraqis, Afghans, Pakistanis, Yemenis and others.

CNN —A musical inspired by viral Olympic breakdancer Raygun was shut down hours before it was due to open on Saturday, after lawyers representing the athlete threatened legal action, the show’s creator said on social media. She added that Gunn’s lawyers trademarked the musical’s poster, which featured a silhouette of the breakdancer’s famous kangaroo hop and said she couldn’t perform that dance as Gunn “owns” it. Washington CNN —The family of Austin Tice, a freelance journalist held in Syria since 2012, said they have new confirmation that he remains alive and well. A source familiar with what the Biden administration knows says there is no change in the administration’s assessment of Austin Tice, and they have no new information. Bill McCarren, director of the Press Freedom Center at the National Press Club, emphatically insisted the Biden administration is “lying” about what they know about Tice. “Our larger question was, how can we use this disruption to leverage something for Austin during this time?” she said. Austin’s father, Marc Tice, said that the family met with the State Department on Thursday, but that the meeting was not productive.

On Tuesday, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff described a painful injury he sustained recently while visiting Fakarava, a remote atoll in the Pacific Ocean. More importantly, Benioff shared some early signs of positive traction for Salesforce's latest AI product, called Agentforce, which helps customers design AI agents. AdvertisementThe CEO said Salesforce "delivered" 200 deals for this new generative AI offering after it became generally available in the last week of the quarter. AdvertisementBenioff touted what he called Salesforce's "unfair advantage" over other generative AI tools because Agentforce is grounded on customer data, such as purchases and returns. Advertisement"Despite Salesforce making AI its defining narrative, the true turning point hinges on Agentforce execution and adoption," Miner wrote.

Salesforce's revenue grew 8% year over year to $9.44 billion in its third quarter, up from the $9.34 billion expected by LSEG. Salesforce raised revenue guidance to between $37.8 billion and $38 billion for its fiscal 2025, up slightly from $37.7 billion to $38 billion it had previously reported. The analysts said they are encouraged by Salesforce's strong start with its artificial intelligence agent, Agentforce, as it closed more than 200 deals during the quarter with "thousands" more in the pipeline. Salesforce's Agentforce is an example of so-called AI agent technology. Goldman Sachs analysts raised their Salesforce price target from $360 to $400 and reiterated their buy rating on the stock.
