MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — President-elect Donald Trump said the government should disclose more information about the recent drone sightings in New Jersey. "Something strange is going on," he said. Residents of New Jersey have reported seeing drones in the sky nearly every night since Nov. 18, a senior official briefed on the drones told NBC News last week. The Pentagon, which has said the drones aren't U.S. military-operated, has denied the drones were linked to Iran. In a joint statement last week, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said there is "no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus."

Months before United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot to death on a Manhattan sidewalk, suspect Luigi Mangione went dark and loved ones desperately tried to find him. After months of silence and growing worry from his family and friends, Mangione finally resurfaced Monday when he was captured by police in Pennsylvania as the suspect in Thompson’s killing. Mangione is fighting extradition to New York, and his lawyer, Thomas Dickey, said he has yet to see evidence linking his client to Thompson’s killing. The two last texted about nine months ago, when Martin reached out to ask Mangione whether he had undergone spinal surgery. The cousin said Mangione had been missing for months, had undergone back surgery and the family was desperate to find him.

If you happen to attend one of the 10 schools in New Jersey’s South Orange and Maplewood school district, put away that Spiderman costume on Halloween. Or wait until after school. Earlier this month, Dr. Ronald G. Taylor, the superintendent of the district, sent a letter to parents saying that Halloween would not be celebrated during school hours. The announcement from Dr. Taylor divided families in the district. Some fully supported the decision, pointing out that some of the elementary schools had already stopped celebrating the holiday, whereas other parents saw this as liberal good intentions going off the rails.

REUTERS/Nicholas Pfosi/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 25 (Reuters) - 3M (MMM.N) said on Monday it was looking at options to further accelerate the stoppage of manufacturing of PFAS chemicals at its Zwijndrecht facility in Belgium and warned of a likely hit due to the continued idling of the plant. In August, 3M secured preliminary approval for a $10.3 billion deal resolving claims by U.S. public water providers over pollution by PFAS. While the non-PFAS manufacturing continues at the Belgian facility, PFAS has been idled. However, the 3M said it was unable to predict the extent of any negative impact to operations. 3M has outlined plans to exit from all PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025.

Some analysts' estimates of the company's potential liability from the earplug litigation had been as high as $10 billion. The Combat Arms earplugs were made by Aearo Technologies, a company 3M acquired in 2008. The lawsuits were consolidated before U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers in Pensacola, Florida federal court in 2019. Aearo filed for bankruptcy in July 2022, with 3M pledging $1 billion to fund its liabilities stemming from the earplug lawsuits.

Other major media companies — including Fox, Disney and Warner Bros. Still, media executives have been anxiously awaiting the fallout from the prospect of hundreds of writers assembling on picket lines. Negotiations between the major Hollywood studios and the Writers Guild of America, the union that represents the writers, broke down on May 1, and 11,500 writers for television and film immediately went on strike. But the writers are not just demonstrating outside the major studios. They have gone far afield as well, setting up pickets outside productions in Maplewood, N.J., Chicago and Philadelphia.
Mr. Sebesky’s musical interests ranged far and wide. From the beginning, Mr. Taylor and CTI were on a mission to broaden the audience for jazz by exploring intersections with pop, rock and R&B, and by making music that was more accessible to mainstream audiences than some of jazz’s more esoteric strains. It was an approach that displeased some purists, but it sold records, and Mr. Sebesky’s arranging skills were pivotal to that success. Mr. Sebesky arranged the saxophonist Paul Desmond’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (1970), an album of interpretations of Simon & Garfunkel songs. Pairing Mr. Benson with that song was an idea Mr. Sebesky had proposed to Mr. Taylor, but with a twist.
