For decades, homeowners insurance was considered a very stable line of business for insurance companies, said Chuck Nyce, a professor of risk management and insurance at Florida State University. The US homeowners insurance industry saw net losses jump to $101.29 billion in 2023, according to the report. Only two of the 20 largest US homeowners’ insurance companies were profitable last year. Kaylee Greenlee Beal/ReutersWhile property insurance is not mandated by law, most lenders require it for mortgage holders. Last year, Florida’s state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. became the 10th largest homeowners’ insurer in the US, S&P Global said.

"If I'm going to tell my story, this is how it was supposed to be told," Drake Bell, pictured here at his studio in Mexico City, recently told BI. In the second season, Brian Peck (who is unrelated to Bell's "Drake & Josh" costar Josh Peck) joined as a dialogue coach. Bell told BI that Nickelodeon "was a factory," treating child actors like kings one day only to throw them to the curb the next. Bell told BI that, in some ways, his music and the docuseries serve the same purpose.

CNN —When it comes to a mom’s mental health, grandparents are a big deal, according to a new study. The connection between access to grandparents’ help and lower use of antidepressants was especially strong in mothers who were separated from their partners, the study said. “Grandparents are an important source of support to families with children, and support from others is well-known to protect individuals from depression,” Metsä-Simola said via email. There were instances when grandparents might have a negative impact on the mother’s health. While such support may come from grandparents, families who don’t have that help aren’t at a loss, she said.

The U.S. ambassador to Russia met Friday with Evan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal reporter jailed in Moscow, a few days after his family appealed to the United Nations for help in bringing him home. The U.S. embassy in Russia confirmed the visit by Ambassador Lynne M. Tracy, which was the fourth time she had met with Mr. Gershkovich since he was detained by the Russian authorities in March. “He remains strong and is keeping up with the news — including his parents’ appearance at the U.N. this week,” the embassy said in a statement on social media. Mr. Gershkovich’s family on Wednesday had urged world leaders who will soon be attending the U.N. General Assembly to join the call for his release.

The U.S. ambassador to Russia, Lynne M. Tracy, met with the detained Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich at Lefortovo Prison in Moscow on Monday, according to the State Department. It was the first time since April 17 that an American diplomatic official had been able to meet with Mr. Gershkovich, who has been held for more than 13 weeks on what American officials have said are bogus allegations of espionage. Ms. Tracy reported that Mr. Gershkovich was in “good health” and remained “strong, despite his circumstances.” Mr. Gershkovich, 31, has been held since late March at Lefortovo, a high-security jail known for difficult conditions for inmates, including extreme isolation. The Russian government’s allegations against Mr. Gershkovich have been vehemently rejected by the United States government and The Journal. The State Department reiterated on Monday that Mr. Gershkovich had been “wrongfully detained” — meaning that the U.S. government considers him to be the equivalent of a political hostage.

President Biden said the United States and its NATO allies had “nothing to do with” a rebellion by the Wagner mercenary group in Russia. Mr. Biden said that the United States would continue to assess the fallout from the crisis in Russia and closely align responses with its allies. On Monday, Mr. Prigozhin broke his silence to claim that his advance on Moscow had never been intended as a bid to seize power. While Mr. Miller may have been articulating official U.S. policy, President Biden has previously expressed a different personal view. “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Mr. Biden said of Mr. Putin during a March 2022 visit to Poland.

Many people in the small coastal community, which faces the Gulf of Mexico southwest of Fort Myers, did not have flood insurance coverage. It appears that, despite an increased occurrence of devastating flood events, a declining percentage of people nationwide have flood insurance policies. Chuck Larsen / SantivaChronicle.com via APOne significant issue is that many homeowners assume a typical homeowner's insurance policy covers floods.
