Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said it was a relief to have Clark's pursuit of the NCAA record end. “There are so many people who have come before me and laid such a great foundation for women’s basketball, and that has to be celebrated, too. The NCAA doesn't recognize that record because it was set when the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women governed women's college sports. CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — South Africa, Colombia and other countries that lost out in the global race for coronavirus vaccines are taking a more combative approach towards drugmakers and pushing back on policies that deny cheap treatment to millions of people with tuberculosis and HIV. The pills are especially important for South Africa, where TB killed more than 50,000 people in 2021, making it the country’s leading cause of death. In July, J&J’s patent on the drug expired in South Africa, but the company had it extended until 2027, enraging activists who accused it of profiteering. Back then, President Nelson Mandela’s government in South Africa eventually suspended patents to allow wider access to AIDS drugs. Bedaquiline was not rolled out as a standard treatment in South Africa until 2018.

Brisbane, Australia CNN —An Australian teacher who killed his wife so he could start a new life with a teenage student has been sentenced to an extra year in prison for a crime committed when the girl was 16 years old. Their relationship continued despite intense speculation about the whereabouts of Dawson’s wife Lynette, who Dawson had claimed walked out on their family when their children were just two and four years old. Nathan PattersonNo trace of Lynette Dawson has ever been found despite multiple police investigations and searches, which included digging up the backyard of the couple’s former home on Sydney’s northern beaches in 2018. Dawson has continued to maintain his innocence, even after being found guilty in 2022 of murdering Lynette sometime around 1982. During the judge-only trial, multiple witnesses claimed to have seen Lynette Dawson in the years after, but Judge Ian Harrison dismissed those as false or mistaken.

As a financial journalist, I've heard tons of financial advice from dozens of financial experts. The best pieces of advice are about your money mindset, automating your savings, and paying yourself first. I have heard tons of financial advice, but I've found that the best advice, and the insight that really resonates across the board, pertains to everyday money management. Money scripts are beliefs that we have around money and they influence how we handle money. "The way that we handle money is a direct result of our money scripts and how we view money," Tisdale told me.

Over a lifetime, pay disparity will cost Black women over $900,000 which could be used for retirement. Black women need to save aggressively, take advantage of 401(k) and IRA options early, and advocate to get paid what they're owed. Black women working full-time, year-round are paid 67 cents for every dollar paid to white men. This wage gap will typically cost Black women working full-time, year-round, over $900,000 over a lifetime of work. That $900,000, which could be a fully-funded retirement, will be out of reach for many Black women.

The Alberta Industrial Heartland, a not-for-profit organization consisting of five Alberta municipalities, and the Hong Kong-based private equity firm Can-China Global Resource Fund (CCGRF) had announced their partnership in 2016 to encourage investments across North America. "This partnership no longer exists," Karlee Conway Director Communications of the Alberta Industrial Heartland said in an email response to Reuters. The lead investor of the fund was China's Export-Import Bank, Vancouver-based mining firm Hunter Dickinson and Swiss commodity trader Mercuria. While all three were released in 2021, the relationship between China and Canada has not returned to normal. The oil-rich province of Alberta exported C$4.5 billion worth of goods to China in 2020, making it the Canadian province's second-biggest export market.

Sydney CNN —An Australian physical education teacher who murdered his wife so he could start a new life with a teenage student has been found guilty of sexual abuse. Dawson was found guilty last year of murdering his first wife Lynette in a conviction that ended one of Australia’s longest-running cold cases. Judge Huggett sided with AB, finding that Dawson had groomed the teenager while she was still his pupil. Judge Huggett said she accepted the evidence that Dawson had proposed to AB at least once in 1980, when AB was 16. AB had testified against Dawson in the murder trial, which saw Dawson jailed for 24 years.

SAN FRANCISCO — Standing at the stoop of her childhood home — a slim but stately Victorian shaded by an evergreen pear tree — Lynette Mackey pulled up a photo of a family gathering from nearly 50 years ago. The men were all in suits, the women in skirts. Ms. Mackey, a teenager in red bell bottoms, stretched her arms wide and had a beaming smile. Soon after that time, in the 1960s and 1970s, Ms. Mackey watched the slow erasure of Black culture from the Fillmore District, once celebrated as “the Harlem of the West.” The jazz clubs that drew the likes of Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington disappeared, and so, too, did the soul food restaurants. In many cases, the old Victorian homes were torn down and replaced with housing projects, but the city kept Ms. Mackey’s home standing, and it has since been renovated into government-subsidized apartments.
Some long Covid patients swear by the treatment, with one describing it to CNBC Make It as a "total game changer." That's a huge stumbling block for many medical experts, who caution against viewing it as a universal remedy for long Covid. Most of the ones who do get treated have reported improved long Covid symptoms, the clinic adds. That's because a variety of underlying physiological conditions — like chronic lung issues, for example — can "drive different manifestations of long Covid," says Dr. Lucy Horton, an infectious disease physician who founded the long Covid clinic at UC San Diego Health. "For many [Covid] long haulers, including myself, financial freedom is gone because we can't work full-time."
Women face unique challenges, but there are steps to take today to build wealth for the long term. The gender pay and retirement gap, rising costs of child and elder care and the pink tax, to name a few. Start saving aggressively to cover basic living expenses during that period. You do not want to spend down retirement savings or max out credit cards to get by. This will become such a habit, you will forget that you are saving money because it's transferred into savings before you even see it.
New York CNN —The banking meltdown over the past week has left us with more questions than answers. Here are five questions that experts answered Wednesday night. Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers told CNN that despite scary headlines, now is not the time for consumers to panic. Some context: Those regulations passed in the wake of the Great Recession laid out stricter rules for the banking industry. Of course, others note that the risk of letting the 16th-largest US bank collapse, and potentially letting its tech industry customers also fail, could have far-reaching and potentially devastating consequences.
"There's a lot more support for Black artists that kind of came out of George Floyd's murder and institutions realizing that they need to do more," Peterson said. Saul Loeb | Afp | Getty ImagesThe market for work by Black American artists grew by nearly 400% between 2008 and 2021, according to a recent report from art market website ArtNet. Acquisitions of work by Black American artists peaked in 2015, two years after the start of the Black Lives Matter movement. "My impression is there are vastly increased number of solo shows and group shows dedicated to Black artists in London, in Paris, in New York, across the United States," Elliott said. Works from established artists like Kerry James Marshall that depict Black figures are influencing the work of new artists and creating a lineage, Elliott noted.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Lynette Hardaway, a zealous supporter of former President Donald Trump whose death had prompted widespread speculation over its cause, died earlier this month of a heart condition, according to a death certificate obtained Monday by The Associated Press. Known by the stage name “Diamond” of the conservative political commentary duo Diamond and Silk, Hardaway, 51, died Jan. 8 of heart disease caused by chronic high blood pressure. Hardaway and her sister, Rochelle “Silk” Richardson, found internet stardom as Black women who ardently backed Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign. Joined on stage at the memorial by Trump, Richardson said her sister died after returning to her North Carolina home from a relative’s birthday celebration.

The cold case against Christopher Dawson was reopened after the 2018 podcast put pressure on the police to revisit their investigation. A 2003 inquest had recommended charging Dawson with his wife Lynette's murder but prosecutors declined, citing a lack of evidence. "Our system of justice and our democracy is based upon the presumption of innocence," he told media on Friday. "We respect and thank Judge Harrison for his sentence, and hope Chris Dawson lives a long life in order to serve that sentence," he told media. Dawson, now 74, claimed his wife had left him - a defence that Harrison said was fanciful.
