But hidden within the typical red carpet fanfare at the Governors Ball in Los Angeles on Sunday night was a group of sartorial renegades, each one taking aim at the traditional button-down shirt. Leading the charge was actor Barry Keoghan, dressed in a full Dolce & Gabbana suit featuring a black cropped satin jacket. Matt Baron/BEI/ShutterstockDrew Starkey paired his red suit with a stand collar and ornate black clasp. His Shakespearean-style blouse might look more at home at a Renaissance fair than a glitzy red carpet, but its off-white shade and tie-front detail gave the Gucci tuxedo a new lease of life. Jordan Strauss/Invision/APWith social media positioning fashion as mainstream entertainment, red carpet dressing has never felt so important to an actor’s digital profile.

CNN —There’s nothing quite like the mouthwatering taste of real Prosciutto di Parma, known the world over as Parma ham. The end result is that Parma ham as we know it is increasingly hard to find on international dinner plates. Unlike many heavily mechanized meat processing industries, Parma ham production is steeped in history and tradition. But they are nowhere to be seen, essentially kept under lockdown to protect them from the swine fever virus. Cavagnini produces pork for products including Parma ham and San Daniele ham — a similar cured meat originating in Italy’s northeastern Friuli region.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are still method dressing

CNN —While some might be growing weary of celebrity method dressing — the styling phenomenon that sees actors match their red carpet garb to their latest movie role — character-based fashion shows no sign of stopping. In the run up to the release of Luca Guadagnino’s erotic tennis drama “Challengers” this spring, star Zendaya wore almost exclusively white and lime green looks — often adorned with literal tennis balls. Now, it’s Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s turn. TheStewartofNY/WireImage/Getty ImagesOne of the pair's earliest examples of method dressing took place at the Paris Olympic Games in July. Gilbert Flores/Variety/Getty ImagesPerhaps, if we’ve reached the peak of method dressing, the trend might evolve to become more subtle, playful and less restrictive.

That has forced Remy Cointreau, whose stock has fallen 50% for the year, to slash its full-year guidance and expects another year of double-digit declines in sales. The declines are a “normalization” within the industry, with alcohol sales nearing their pre-Covid levels, according to Marten Lodewijks, IWSR’s president for the US division. Cheaper private labels have had a boon in sales, mirroring a larger trend of customers seeking more affordable options in all aspects of their life. Aldi’s lineup is growing double digits in sales, bucking the broader industry trends of declines, Arlin Zajmi, director of national buying for adult beverages, told CNN. How Hermès is bucking the global luxury slowdown
  + stars: | 2024-10-31 | by ( Natalie Rice | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
French luxury company Hermès has spent nearly 200 years emphasizing quality, scarcity and desirability — a strategy that's helped it dominate the luxury sector, even over its much larger rivals. Analysts say the Birkin and the Kelly account for between 25% and 28% of Hermès' total revenue. For fiscal year 2023 Hermès reported the fourth-highest revenue total of the major luxury fashion brands, behind LVMH , Richemont and Kering . In its most recent quarter, Hermès posted double-digit revenue growth while competitors LVMH and Kering reported sharper-than-expected declines in sales. Globally, many luxury consumers have pulled back on spending, particularly aspirational buyers in 2023 and 2024.

Apple CEO Tim Cook inspects the new iPhone 16 during an Apple special event at Apple headquarters on September 09, 2024 in Cupertino, California. "That should be expected, as Apple Intelligence features (the only reason to upgrade)have yet to be rolled out in a significant way." U.S. carriers, including AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, have also seemed unexcited about an Apple Intelligence upgrade cycle. Apple CEO Tim Cook (C) joins customers during Apple's iPhone 16 launch in New York on September 20, 2024. Apple's second-largest division after the iPhone has turned into a $100 billion a year business that Wall Street loves. In Apple's earnings report on Thursday, the company said it reached just under $25 billion in services revenue, an all-time high for the category, and 12% growth on an annual basis. Apple's services unit has become a critical part of Apple's appeal to investors over the past decade. After Thursday, Apple's services business alone, based on its most recent run rate, would land around 40th on the Fortune 500, topping Morgan Stanley and Johnson & Johnson.

While the hardware sales are certainly profitable, they pale in comparison to the profitability of Apple's Services. It's impossible to do consistently, and that's why Jim Cramer always says "own, don't trade" Apple stock. During the reported quarter, Apple returned over $29 billion to shareholders, including $3.8 billion in dividends and equivalents and another $25 billion via the repurchase of 112 million shares. Though Services sales missed the mark, gross income managed to outpace expectations thanks to significant year-over-year margin expansion. The growing installed base of active devices is of course translating into strong engagement with Apple's services.

CFO turnover hit 8.9% globally during the period, surpassing levels in 2022 and 2023. A global pandemic, increased geopolitical tensions overseas, supply chain disruptions and recession concerns have made the CFO role even harder. Moving forward, it's unclear whether CFO turnover will continue to pickup. Accel labels these companies "founder factories," on the basis that they have become breeding grounds for talent that often go on to establish their own firms. However, most of the biggest fintech founder factories come from Europe. Asked about why Klarna topped the ranking of fintech founder factories in Europe, Bocchio said: "Klarna is an organization that is coming of age now." Nearly two-thirds (61%) of companies founded by former employees of fintech unicorns were founded in the same city as the unicorn, according to Accel. This, he said, "speaks to the maturity and appetite" of individuals within Europe's fintech founder factories.

Europe is clamping down on Chinese electric cars. European automakers are facing plunging EV sales and pressure over looming emissions targets. AdvertisementEurope is clamping down on Chinese electric cars — but the move to protect the continent's automakers could create a new problem for the likes of Volkswagen and BMW. The European Union voted to impose sweeping tariffs on Chinese EV makers on Friday as it seeks to protect its automotive industry from what the bloc claims are unfairly subsidized cheap Chinese electric vehicles. The European tariffs come after the US introduced its own trade restrictions against Chinese EVs earlier this year.

CNN —A painting discovered by a junk dealer in the basement of an Italian villa six decades ago is actually the work of Pablo Picasso and could sell for millions, according to experts. At just 24, Lo Rosso didn’t appreciate that the signature in the upper left corner of the artwork that read simply “Picasso” meant anything, his son Andrea Lo Rosso told CNN on Tuesday. The older Lo Rosso, who died in 2021, stuck it in a cheap frame and gave it to his wife — much to her chagrin, his son said. Finally, last month Cinzia Altieri, a graphologist for a patrimony court in Milan, was able to certify the Picasso signature as authentic. “I’m happy but let’s wait to toast, there is still one step to take before we consider this incredible story over,” Andrea Lo Rosso said.
