My husband and I rent an apartment on the northern coast of California and own a home in Mexico. We live in Mexico's Guanajuato part of the year and love its walkability and vibrancy. AdvertisementMy husband and I, who are 82 and 73 respectively, love being renters — but we also own a home outside of the US. For over 20 years we've split our time between our rented apartment on California's northern coast and our 150-year-old adobe house in Guanajuato, Mexico. We often spend spring, summer, and fall in California before heading down to Mexico around Thanksgiving to live in our house until it's time to fly back.

Dominion Energy is talking with other tech companies about developing small modular nuclear reactors, after the Virginia utility entered into an agreement with Amazon last month to look at advancing the next-generation technology. Tech companies are investing in nuclear power as they hunt for carbon-free, reliable electricity to support the growing energy needs of artificial intelligence data centers. Alphabet 's Google agreed last month to purchase power from the startup Kairos Power, a developer of small modular reactors. Small modular reactors promise to reduce capital costs and speed the deployment of nuclear plants. There is no operating small modular reactor in the U.S. right now.

The rise of online betting has led the commercial gambling industry to balloon worldwide, posing a significant threat to public health, according to a new report. The report, published Thursday, comes from a public health commission on gambling convened by the medical journal The Lancet. The report highlighted the role online gambling has played in the rising availability of commercial gambling as a whole. Belgium, the Netherlands and Ontario, for example, have varying restrictions on gambling advertising, including online gambling. A 2015 paper found that online gambling could lead to the emergence or aggravation of gambling problems.

I've learned that if I want to form a new habit, promising someone I will doesn't work for me. AdvertisementWhen I was a teenager, I developed a habit of repeatedly promising my mother I would go on a diet. When I'm struggling to change a habit or face a tough decision, I sometimes use art to depict my mental state. Ever since, I've been able to moderate my pace by watching the person I'm eating with — usually Barry, my husband, who tends to eat slower than I do. Many people use computer software or apps to track their habits, but I'm old-fashioned and prefer the mind-body approach of handwriting.

My husband and I often travel in a small camper van together. We try to give each other space, stay positive, and meet other people when we can. Living in cramped quarters like our van can definitely challenge our relationship, but we've learned to make it work. In his years helping Americans move overseas, he says one major expense ends up not be worth it: paying to ship your belongings to your new home. "You can't just pick up everything from your old house and put it into your new house in Europe," Ingrim tells CNBC Make It. A lot of times, larger furniture pieces simply don't fit in oftentimes smaller European spaces, he says. The good news is that people are often "pleasantly surprised" at "how much cheaper a lot of the furniture is in Europe," Ingrim says. That goes for appliances, too: "A new kitchen in Europe is a lot cheaper than it is in the U.S."

CNN —Members of the Egyptian women’s beach volleyball team have spoken out against France’s hijab ban for its athletes after competing in an Olympic beach volleyball match wearing modest clothing. Marwa Abdelhady and Doaa Elghobashy represented Egypt at the Paris Olympics, wearing hijabs, long black sleeved shirts and black ankle length leggings in a women’s beach volleyball match against Spain. Speaking to CNN’s Swedish affiliate Expressen Thursday, Abdelhady said that she “doesn’t like” the hijab ban for French athletes. “I want to play in my hijab, she wants to play in a bikini,” Expressen reported Elghobashy as saying. In January 2022, the French senate voted to ban the wearing of the hijab and other “ostensible religious symbols” in sports competitions.

There could be risks involved with using psychedelics, and research is still being done to evaluate therapeutic uses. Barry, now my husband, was the person who introduced me to LSD almost 50 years ago when I was 23. Barry and I use psychedelics on average two or three times a year. Then, when my husband and I got married, we stopped eating meat altogether — and almost 50 years later, we're still eating a vegetarian diet, though we occasionally eat fish. AdvertisementAnimal agriculture is responsible for 60% of greenhouse gas emissions and 83% of the world's farmland, and we've found that we really don't miss eating meat anyway. I don't like the taste of that either, but with a whopping 25 grams of protein per tablespoon, it's worth it. If you're a regular meat eater, you can start by eating less meat and more vegetables.

"You'll regret it if you don't have kids," my friend's mom warned her in her 20s. Back then, in the 50s and 60s, it was assumed that everyone would have kids after they got married. I'm sure having children can indeed be one of life's most beautiful experiences, but I have no regrets. AdvertisementThis was partly because I never experienced a clear, decisive moment when I woke up and said to myself, "I don't want children." I don't mean we should've thrown a party, but rather, I wish now that we had done something simple to mark the transition.

As well as withdrawing from the four occupied regions in eastern and southern Ukraine, Putin said Ukraine must demilitarize and that Western countries must lift their sanctions on Russia, which have damaged but not crippled its economy. Nearly 28 months later, Russia occupies around a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula it annexed a decade ago.
