Kamala Harris appeared on "Saturday Night Live" for a cameo ahead of the US election. The vice president appeared alongside actor Maya Rudolph in the show's cold open. CNN —With less than a month to go until the presidential election, “Saturday Night Live” pit Democrats against Republicans in a “Family Feud” sketch on its latest episode. Rudolph’s Harris and Samberg’s Emhoff were quick to get the top two answers on the board, answering “gun” and “second gun,” respectively. But “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels had been open about the show’s political plans prior to the start of the season, now three episodes deep. “You can’t lecture the audience, which most of politics is now, people lecturing the audience. Growing up, Lamorne Morris enjoyed Garrett Morris’ performances as Martin’s boss on “Martin” and as Uncle Junior on “The Jamie Foxx Show.” His only knowledge of the trailblazer at the time was that they shared the same last name. He launched his own comedy career at Second City, considered a “Saturday Night Live” training ground, in his native Chicago. There, Morris, who grew up watching the Will Ferrell-Tina Fey era of the pop culture staple, learned that Garrett Morris was an original cast member on the series. He starred as a version of the cartoonist Keith Knight in the Hulu comedy series “Woke” for two seasons. He found that Garrett Morris, who wasn’t involved in the film, shared Knight’s outlook.

It’s 1:01 a.m. on a Sunday morning in May, and Lorne Michaels, the creator and producer of “Saturday Night Live,” has just finished the final episode of the 49th season. He spent those 90 minutes pacing backstage, hands in pockets, surveying the actors, allowing himself only an occasional chuckle of satisfaction. But on the floor, Michaels, 79, has just concluded his 20th show of the year with resignation: “I only see the mistakes,” he says. He is likely to spend the weekend perseverating about every detail, he says. Michaels, through “S.N.L.,” has built an entertainment empire that has survived for half a century despite the dismantling of traditional television.

CNN —“Saturday Night Live” longtime executive producer Lorne Michaels has a few ideas about who may be best fit to succeed him when the comedic visionary retires. One of those potential successors could be esteemed “SNL” alum Tina Fey, whose name came up while Michaels was talking to Entertainment Tonight on the Emmys red carpet on Monday. “It could easily be Tina Fey,” he told the publication. Michaels, 79, has been affiliated with “Saturday Night Live” since creating it in 1975. Fey certainly knows enough about the ins and outs of “SNL” to join the ranks at the top, herself.

Can a movie musical based on a Broadway musical based on a film comedy that in turn was based on a parenting book be any good? Sure — if only because the writer-producer Tina Fey and the producer Lorne Michaels have made sure that little has changed in their money-printing property since the first movie hit theaters in 2004. It’s not especially tart and is undeniably over-padded, but its charms and ingratiating likability remain intact. There, she meets nerds and jocks, alphas and betas, and attracts the notice of the queen bee, the aptly named Regina (Reneé Rapp, who played the role on Broadway). Flanked by her vassals, Karen (Avantika) and Gretchen (Bebe Wood), Regina reigns supreme at school where, as the student body’s most attentively studied subject, she is feared, desired and loathed, at times simultaneously.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The newest group of Kennedy Center honorees, including comedian Billy Crystal and actor Queen Latifah, are being feted Sunday night at a star-studded event commemorating their lifetime achievement in arts and entertainment. Opera singer Renée Fleming, music star Barry Gibb and prolific hitmaker Dionne Warwick also are being honored at the black-tie gala. Just over a week after thousands of television and movie writers took to picket lines, Netflix is feeling the heat. Late Wednesday night, Netflix abruptly said it was canceling a major Manhattan showcase that it was staging for advertisers next week. Instead of an in-person event held at the fabled Paris Theater, which the streaming company leases, Netflix said the presentation would now be virtual. He was scheduled to be honored alongside the “Saturday Night Live” eminence Lorne Michaels. In a statement, Mr. Sarandos explained that he withdrew because the potential demonstrations could overshadow the event.
CNN —Give Pete Davidson a bit of credit for making himself the least interesting part of a series about being Pete Davidson. Having already played a version of himself in the Peacock movie “The King of Staten Island,” Davidson certainly doesn’t seem overly concerned about stretching his acting chops. Davidson is introduced Google-ing himself, chafing at living in the public eye while residing (uncomfortably at times, as an early sequence demonstrates) with his mom. “Bupkis” is at times very funny, but when it comes to getting to know more about Pete Davidson, the show’s admirable qualities are more in spite of that than because of it. “Bupkis” premieres May 4 on Peacock.

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Months after his departure from “The Daily Show" in late 2022, comedian Trevor Noah won a Webby Award for comedy in the “America’s Door Problem” segment of the late-night talk show, in which he pushes for gun control and criticizes policymakers’ response to mass shootings. In Noah's segment, he skewers the beliefs of some conservatives that books, critical race theory, video games and rap music lead to gun violence. “Yeah, that’s right, that’s how evil critical race theory is — it's only been around for like a year and it’s already caused three decades of school shootings,” Noah said.
