Read previewA Los Angeles bakery was caught up in a counterfeit-check scam after receiving an order for 1,000 cupcakes. Stern told KABC the "odd" order did raise suspicion, largely because her bakery primarily specializes in occasion cakes and cookies with edible flowers, not cupcakes. Stern told the outlet the bank informed her that if the funds cleared, which they later did, the check was probably legitimate. "They said, 'Oh, it's been cited as a counterfeit check,'" Stern told the outlet. Stern told KABC the experience left her feeling "disheartened about humanity."
