Jordan Chiles won her first individual Olympic medal in Monday's floor exercise final, but originally, the judges left her off the podium. After losing an all-around bronze medal in a heart-wrenching tiebreaker, Raisman thought she was fourth again on the beam. Raisman was on the 2016 Olympic team with Biles that won team gold and collected more medals than any U.S. gymnastics team in history. Chiles lost the chance to contend for an all-around medal to her teammate Suni Lee, who went on to win bronze. Eight years ago, Raisman won her last Olympic medal in Rio, a silver in her signature event, the floor exercise.

The team final on Tuesday will be an important stop. The three other gymnasts competing in the team final — including the defending all-around champion Sunisa Lee — are all competing at their second Summer Games. How it works: The team final consists of three gymnasts competing on all events — and every score counts — so there is no room for error. Biles rebounds: Biles finished first in the all-around in team qualifying, despite dealing with pain in her left calf that her coach, Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, said had been nagging Biles for weeks. Americans dominate: The U.S. team finished more than 5 points ahead of the second-place Italy in team qualifying, with China and Brazil very close behind, in third and fourth.

Simone Biles has another name for the U.S. gymnastics team’s participation in the Paris Games: the redemption tour. The team finals on Tuesday will be an important stop. At the Tokyo Games, the U.S. women’s team was a favorite to win, but it ended up with silver, behind Russia, after Biles withdrew from the final because of a mental block. That ended the United States’ streak of consecutive team victories at the London Games in 2012 and in Rio in 2016. Now Biles, who is anchoring the team on three of the four events in the final, said the team was ready to return to the top.

Paris CNN —LeBron James made his emphatic return to Olympic basketball on Sunday, turning in a dominant performance in a 110-84 win against Serbia, his first contest at the Games since 2012. James’ 21 points, eight rebounds and nine assists helped provide the spark for Team USA throughout the contest. The first half though was all about Kevin Durant, who scored 21 points on 8-for-8 shooting. Edwards finished with 11 points and five rebounds. It appeared to be the turning point that put Team USA on its way to a blowout win after Serbia hung around for much of the first three quarters of the game.

Still, as the U.S. men’s team starts its Olympic run Sunday, it begins with a roster that has drawn countless comparisons to the Dream Team. On paper, the U.S. men’s team is arguably the best team assembled since 1992. Durant is the most prolific scorer in U.S. men’s history and could, if the Americans win gold in Paris, become the most decorated Olympic men’s basketball player. A loss in the knockout stages, when there are no more second chances, and a Dream Team redux becomes a historic nightmare. In that scenario, the U.S. men’s team would be remembered forever, even if not quite held in the same reverence as the Dream Team.

A report by the Paris tourism office showed that hotel prices would rise by a whopping 314% between the 2023 and 2024 summers. The report also hit out at the Paris hotels for waiting too long to open their booking platforms for the July 26 - Aug. 11 Games. FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Berlin has shown “a lot of interest” in hosting a game as the league plans to extend its agreement to play in Germany beyond 2025. “Düsseldorf, Berlin — there’s been a lot of interest there — so I think they’re all possibilities, yes,” Goodell said Saturday. The NFL’s current deal calls for one game next season — it’s scheduled for Munich — and another in 2025, likely in Frankfurt. “We have every intention to continue to play here,” Goodell told the mostly German audience at a downtown hotel. The NFL kicks off the first of this season's international games on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London before the series shifts for the first time to Frankfurt for two games starting Nov. 5. NFL Europe, which began in 1991 with 10 teams, shuttered in 2007 and was replaced by regular season NFL games starting with a contest at Wembley in October 2007. "It may have been back at the very first game at Wembley, but now this is a really educated fanbase." About 82% of tickets sold for two London games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month went to fans in the United Kingdom, the NFL said. It was the perfect response for Ledecky, who was dethroned and left disappointed by the record-breaking Ariarne Titmus in Sunday's 400m freestyle event. Earlier, Richards finished strongly to bag the gold ahead of compatriot Tom Dean in his freestyle event with a solid time of one minute, 44.30 seconds. "I knew going into the race it was one of the most stacked 200 freestyle fields for a long time. Olympic champion Dean finished 0.02 seconds behind to take silver and Hwang Sun-woo of South Korea took the bronze, while 2022 world champion David Popovici of Romania missed out on a podium spot. After 17 years on the national team and nearly as many years speaking out to support various issues including L.G.B.T.Q. rights, equal pay, the Black Lives Matter movement and voter rights, Rapinoe will play in her fourth Women’s World Cup and her final season in the National Women’s Soccer League and will end her career at the top of her sport. Perhaps nothing exemplified her ability to perform under pressure more than when she scored twice in a quarterfinal against France at the 2019 World Cup. The Americans went on to win that world title, their second in a row. Her six goals at that World Cup helped her earn the Golden Boot as the top scorer and the Golden Ball as the top player.
