DETROIT — Union members at Ford Motor approved a tentative agreement Friday, concluding contentious contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers and Detroit automakers. According to the UAW's vote tracker, which must still be finalized, the Ford deal was supported by 68.2% of the nearly 35,000 autoworkers at Ford who voted. Local UAW chapters representing every Ford plant voted in favor of the pact aside from a small parts facility in Florida and the automaker's massive Kentucky Truck Plant, as of early Friday afternoon. The contract ratifications come weeks after the automakers and union reached tentative deals, ending about six weeks of targeted strikes by the UAW.

GM's Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee on Monday became the most recent major facility to vote against the contract, with 67.5% of UAW members rejecting it. Reasons behind the disapproval vary, according to industry experts and UAW members who spoke with CNBC. GM has had 52% of workers voting so far in support of ratification. DETROIT – General Motors plans to invest roughly $13 billion in U.S. facilities by April 2028, the United Auto Workers union said as part of its recent tentative agreement with the automaker. GM has already announced some of the planned investments such as $4 billion at Orion Assembly in suburban Detroit and $2 billion in Spring Hill, Tennessee, for new electric vehicles. GM was the last Detroit automaker to reach a tentative agreement following Ford Motor and Chrysler-parent Stellantis . GM's U.S. investments through the terms of the 4 ½-tear tentative compared to $8.1 billion announced by the union at Ford and $18.9 billion at Stellantis, including $6.2 billion in previously announced parts plants in Kokomo, Indiana. The details disclosed by the union for GM did not include billions in previously announced investments in four joint-venture battery cell plants in the U.S., including three upcoming facilities.

The tentative labor agreement was reached Saturday after roughly six weeks of targeted strikes by the union against Stellantis, General Motors and Ford Motor. The work stoppages began Sept. 15 after the sides failed to reach deals covering 146,000 UAW members with the automakers by a strike deadline. "For the first time in a long time, we've done the unthinkable: Reopened a plant," Fain said during an online broadcast Thursday, referring to the Belvidere plant, which was idled in February 2022. Heading into the talks, UAW Vice President Rich Boyer, who led the Stellantis talks, made product commitments a priority and stressed that the Belvidere plant was a make-or-break issue.

The historic United Auto Workers strike is over. The UAW announced Monday evening it had reached a tentative agreement with GM, the last of the Detroit car companies to complete negotiations. The 25% pay increases by April 2028 agreed to in the new contracts raise top pay to about $42 an hour, according to the union. For historical comparison, the union said its workers saw pay increases of 23% for all the years from 2001 through 2022. Ford was the first to notch a tentative agreement with the union on Oct. 25 after employees spent 41 days on strike.

A public deal announcement with Stellantis is expected later Saturday afternoon or early evening, the sources said. Stellantis shuttered its assembly plant in Belvidere, Illinois, early this year, leaving 1,300 workers without jobs. The tentative contract deal will have provisions on the use of temporary workers, the sources said, adding Stellantis has agreed to significant investment. Fain and other senior union leaders are briefing local UAW chiefs by video conference, the sources said. WASHINGTON, April 26 (Reuters) - Chrysler parent Stellantis NV (STLAM.MI) said Wednesday it is offering voluntary exit packages to 33,500 U.S. employees as it looks to streamline operations. The offers cover 31,000 U.S. hourly workers and about 2,500 salaried workers. Stellantis did not say how many total jobs it is looking to eliminate. It is also offering some employees in Canada voluntary buyouts. On Tuesday, a local UAW unit said Stellantis wants to cut approximately 3,500 hourly U.S. jobs in the voluntary offer.
