Ford CEO Jim Farley says he's been driving the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi's EV for the past six months. "I don't like talking about the competition so much, but I drive the Xiaomi," Farley said while speaking to the British presenter Robert Llewellyn on "The Fully Charged Podcast." The Chinese tech giant produces three versions of the car: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. Competing with rivals such as Xiaomi will be critical for Ford as it formulates its approach to the EV market.

Read previewAmerican Airlines is facing backlash after saying that a 9-year-old girl should have seen the cellphone filming her in the bathroom in its initial lawsuit defense. Paul Llewellyn, an attorney for the girl's family, told Business Insider that the airline placing blame on the 9-year-old was "shocking." This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. He is also representing the family of a 9-year-old girl, who says Thompson filmed her in the bathroom during a flight from Texas to Los Angeles in January 2023. American Airlines told Business Insider in a statement that it does "not believe this child is at fault, and we take the allegations involving a former team member very seriously."

The company was responding to a civil lawsuit filed against American Airlines claiming the girl, listed as Mary Doe, was “secretly filmed while using the airplane toilet” during an American Airlines flight in January 2023. A former American Airlines flight attendant, Estes Carter Thompson, 37, who federal investigators say secretly recorded several minors while they used the bathroom on different American Airlines flights last year, is also named in the lawsuit filed in Texas. American Airlines initially argued that the girl was at fault and negligent because she used a lavatory “she knew or should have known contained a visible and illuminated recording device.”In response to CNN’s request for comment on Monday’s filing, American Airlines said the filing was made in error by outside counsel retained by the airline’s insurance company. “The included defense is not representative of our airline, and we have directed it be amended this morning,” American Airlines said in a statement Wednesday. “They should never have taken such an outrageous position in the first place.”Llewellyn called American Airlines’ legal strategy “depraved” and “shocking.”“Instead of taking responsibility for this awful event, American Airlines is actually blaming our daughter for being filmed,” the child’s mother said in a statement.

These days, however, conspiracy theories and those who believe them seem to be playing an outsize role in politics and culture. On the left, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has exploited conspiracy theories about vaccines to wage his own campaign for the presidency this year. The Associated Press has examined the history of conspiracy theories in the United States. “I was suicidal before I got into conspiracy theories,” said Antonio Perez, a Hawaii man who became obsessed with Sept. 11 conspiracy theories and QAnon until he decided that they were interfering with his life. Russia, China, Iran and other U.S. adversaries have worked to amplify conspiracy theories as a way to destabilize democracy further.

She has Slacked senior women leaders "The Man" by Taylor Swift as a reminder of "you got this." She was its first general counsel, helped take the company public, and was named president this July. As you learn who the Lyft customer is, what do you want to change and make better for them? I really say, "Have the courage of a mediocre white male." And this was tough to hear, but in some ways heartening, because like I said, with our new customer obsessed orientation, it's actually something that we've already been really, really actively working on.

BOSTON (AP) — The family of a 14-year-old girl who allegedly discovered a phone taped to the back of a toilet seat on a recent flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Boston said they believe she was targeted by a member of the crew. During the Sept. 2 American Airlines flight 1441, the girl was told by a male member of the crew to use the first-class bathroom. After using the toilet, the girl realized that a largely obscured iPhone had been affixed to the back of the toilet seat, apparently to record her. “These events have left our daughter — and entire family — shocked and profoundly disturbed,” the family wrote in a statement. Massachusetts State Police escorted a flight attendant off the flight.

TD is also not bidding for Laurentian, the report added. The reported move comes weeks after Laurentian, Canada's ninth-largest bank, said it was reviewing strategic options. A spokesperson for Laurentian Bank declined to comment on the report, when contacted by Reuters, saying the bank's "strategic review is still under way" and the "board of directors is actively examining the options available." TD Bank did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Shares of Laurentian, which jumped 27% after reports of a sale earlier this month, have gained about 35% so far this year.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said Tesla's price cuts are reminiscent of Ford's Model T days. Where Tesla sits right now reminds Ford CEO Jim Farley a lot of the early days of his own auto company. "They got through Model 3 and Model Y commercialization in the plant and scaling production. Ford and Tesla have been both friends and rivals over the past few years as Ford races to electrify and snatch up some of Tesla's market share. I've always said that our main competition in the pure electric space is going to be BYD and Geely and Tesla," Farley said.

Washington, DC CNN —Wages are now finally beating inflation, according to the latest quarterly data on wage growth. That was the biggest monthly increase since March 2022, though wage growth had gradually slowed since then. “The folks who left one company and went to another are the ones who are still benefiting from wage growth,” said Morgan Llewellyn, chief data scientist at Jobvite. Part of the continued strength in wage growth largely has to do with employers’ difficulty in hiring, which varies by industry. “Wage growth has still been higher for job changers than job stayers and that suggests that there’s still a shortage of labor for some companies,” said Dawn Fay, operational president at staffing firm Robert Half.
She now works part-time as a marketing professor at two colleges and is launching her "dream" social media business. Llewellyn is based in Canada, but her story is reflective of a broader desire for part-time work. While a part-time job might not be easy to find, many workers who have landed one have found themselves better off. Advice for people considering part-time workDespite her burnout, Llewellyn says that her goal was never to work part-time forever. For others considering making the shift from full-time to part-time, Llewellyn has a few pieces of advice.
Ring girls walk across the ring in boxing matches with flags that tell the crowd what round is next. One of my older friends was a ring girl, the girl who holds up a sign during the fights showing what round is coming next. I was making more as an influencer – ring girl was never a full-time income. I got the job as a ring girl for a new boxing night this summer through an agencyApollonia Llewellyn in the ring at a Misfits boxing match. The agency had advertised a couple of other ring girl jobs but they weren't suitable or I was busy.

Airbus develops fuel-cell engine for hydrogen plane
  + stars: | 2022-11-30 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Airbus has started developing a fuel-cell engine, it said on Wednesday, sticking with plans to introduce a hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft by 2035. The system is one of several options being considered for a potential zero-emission aircaft based on hydrogen, Airbus said. Jet engine makers Rolls-Royce , General Electric , Safran and Pratt & Whitney are among its biggest suppliers. An alternative approach based on combusting liquid hydrogen in more conventional jet engines depends on heavy cooling in larger and heavier tanks. Airbus will start ground and flight testing fuel-cell architecture towards the middle of the decade, the company said during a two-day sustainability event.

LONDON, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Insurance for humanitarian workers, journalists, engineers and others heading to Ukraine is now more expensive and harder to organise than during the Iraq war. The United Nations and other aid organisations in Ukraine said last week that the missile attacks had disrupted their humanitarian work. A shortage of providers is also adding to insurance costs, sources said, pointing in particular to reluctance among some U.S. insurers to offer Ukraine cover. AIG (AIG.N), which declined to comment, was drawing up broad exclusion clauses for Russia and Ukraine, Reuters reported earlier this year.
