CNN —High-scoring matches, unwanted records and an unlikely winning run – Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League round seemed to have it all. Manchester City equals ‘unbeaten’ recordManchester City has set a number of records while commanding the English Premier League in recent seasons, but it appears its dominance also stretches to the Champions League. The Scottish side was unbeaten this season heading into the game, having also won its first Champions League match 5-1 last month. While City and Dortmund won easily on Tuesday, Barcelona also thrashed Young Boys 5-0 and Internazionale beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0. If you like your European midweek football this is the week for you, with 54 Champions League, Europa League and Conference League matches being crammed into three nights. The Champions League kicked things off with some of the competition’s favourites beginning to bare their teeth. In the 20th minute, Donnarumma left his goal line to attempt to punch clear a cross from Leandro Trossard, but he was beaten to the ball by Havertz, who headed into the empty net. But Arsenal would double its lead in the 35th minute when Saka sent a curling free kick into the box. CNN —The long-awaited official hire of former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino as the new head coach of the US men’s national soccer team (USMNT) has finally come to fruition. Pochettino represents a significant get for the US and will bring a wealth of top-level coaching experience to the team. Pochettino has also notably been the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, where he led PSG to a Ligue 1 title. Pochettino joins the US after previous head coach Gregg Berhalter was fired following a disappointing Copa América exit in July. French soccer star Kylian Mbappe will reportedly receive a signing-on bonus of at least £85 million, or $108.4 million, over the next five years after completing his much-anticipated move to Spanish giant Real Madrid. The 25-year-old World Cup winner is expected to officially join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of June. A spokesperson for Real Madrid did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
