Before Lorenza de’ Medici began publishing her cookbooks in the late 1980s, Italian cuisine outside of Italy was often considered unremarkable fare: red sauce, white sauce, pizza and pasta, all of which could be whipped up in haste from frozen, processed ingredients. But in books like “Italy the Beautiful Cookbook” (1988) and “The Renaissance of Italian Cooking” (1989), and later in her 13-part PBS show, “The de’ Medici Kitchen,” Ms. de’ Medici showed that Italian cooking could be something else entirely: light salads and soups, elegant preparations and, above all, fresh ingredients, ideally bought that morning from a local farmer. For those with enough money, she offered intimate one-day to one-week cooking courses at her family’s winery outside Florence, Badia a Coltibuono. Her students stayed in the estate’s thousand-year old complex, originally an abbey, in between lessons on things like how to pick the right vegetables, properly stuff potatoes and separate eggs by hand.

To confirm their suspicions, scientists would need to bring the rock sample to Earth and study it in more detail. Nvidia's rise came after TSMC said on Thursday that demand remains high and supply remains constrained for high-end AI chips, which TSMC manufactures for Nvidia. The seatbelt light. Pete Syme/Business InsiderKeep your seatbelt onSpeaking of unbuckling seat belts, 47% of respondents said it is acceptable to do so when the seatbelt light is switched off. AdvertisementI think there's a fundamental disconnect between what switching off the seatbelt light means to the flying public and what it actually means. Switching off the light means passengers may now safely get up to use the lavatory or retrieve something from the overhead compartment. Even though aircraft are vacuumed in fairly frequent intervals, their carpets see a lot of passengers between more thorough cleanings.

NASA's Perseverance Mars rover is collecting samples that could be evidence of ancient alien life. But NASA's Mars Sample Return mission to bring them to Earth will now cost $11 billion and take two decades. NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASUNASA's original proposal for the Mars Sample Return is "mind-bendingly complicated," David Parker, director of space exploration at the European Space Agency, said in 2021. People with bipolar disorder may experience "spring mania" between winter and summer. People with bipolar disorder might be vulnerable to "spring mania," or manic episodes in the springtime. The reason spring can trigger manic episodes in people with bipolar disorder is because they're more sensitive to light and circadian rhythm shifts, Skowron said. While daylight savings impacts many people's health, Skowron said the symptoms in people with bipolar disorder can be extra heightened. Related storiesManic episodes trigger impulsivity, and patients who are not properly medicated or in therapy are at greater risk of attempting suicide.

It may not be investors' first idea when thinking of home improvement stocks, but Loop Capital sees Best Buy as an under-the-radar pick as the housing market improves. Loop managing director Anthony Chukumba, who has a buy rating on Best Buy, sees the electronics retailer as a potential "stealth housing play." "We were encouraged by the latest macroeconomic data, particularly the ongoing labor market strength and the housing market 'green shoots,'" Chukumba wrote to clients. Chukumba said home furnishing retailers such as Floor & Decor , RH and Williams-Sonoma should also benefit as the housing market improves. Best Buy shares have struggled this year, shedding about 2% and lagging far behind the rest of the market.

New York CNN —Stella Artois, the nearly century-old brew, isn’t immune to the difficulties facing beer sales, so it’s drafting one of the world’s most recognizable personalities to help the lager return to its former glory: David Beckham. That is why I propose a common-sense, everyone-wins idea: Let's make the Monday after daylight-saving time starts a federal holiday. Many of our 11 federal holidays were added in recent history: Memorial Day in 1968 (and observed since 1971). And yes, federal holidays come with an economic cost; government workers still get paid for that day. Everyone knows that's the worst of all the federal holidays, in the middle of dreary February. The best Presidents Day has to offer in terms of cultural impact is that it's when mattresses go on sale.

London CNN —The world’s largest brewer may have lost as much as $1.4 billion in sales because of the backlash to its brief partnership with a transgender influencer to promote Bud Light beer. Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) reported record revenues for 2023 Thursday but said its “full growth potential was constrained” by its US business, where sales were hurt by a boycott of Bud Light over a sponsored Instagram post with Dylan Mulvaney. In North America, organic revenue, seen as the best measure of operating performance, plunged $1.4 billion last year as beer sales by volume tumbled in the region, primarily due to a decline in Bud Light sales in the United States. Bud Light sales tanked after the company’s partnership with Mulvaney sparked an anti-trans backlash and calls for a boycott. The firestorm saw Mexican lager Modelo Especial dethrone Bud Light last May as America’s top-selling beer, a title the brand had held for more than two decades.

While earnings, profit margins, and cash flow came in slightly ahead of expectations, sales were light across the board. Segment margin , similar to an adjusted operating income margin, grew 64 basis points to 23.5%, slightly ahead of expectations and ahead of the high-end of management's previous forecast. Segment margin performance was largely better than expected, with the exception of Building Technologies, and cash flow generation came in solidly above expectations. Where they landed on guidance both in terms of sales and margin performance, and therefore earnings, hinges on the short-cycle recovery. Full-year segment margin guidance of 23.15% at the midpoint was higher than estimates.

Alaska and United Airlines said late Saturday that they were grounding their entire fleets of Boeing 737 Max 9s. "Safety will continue to drive our decision-making as we assist the NTSB's investigation into Alaska Airlines Flight 1282," FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said in a statement. The FAA has heavily scrutinized the Boeing 737 Max since two fatal crashes grounded the jetliner worldwide almost five years ago. The section of the fuselage missing appeared to correspond to an exit not used by Alaska Airlines, or other carriers that don't have high-density seating configurations, and was plugged. Before the FAA issued its directive, Alaska Airlines earlier said it would ground its fleet of Boeing 737 Max 9 planes.

New York CNN —Anheuser-Busch InBev’s US chief marketing officer is stepping down after the company reported a slump in Bud Light sales, as the backlash against the beer continues. The world’s biggest brewer reported a 13.5% decline in third-quarter US revenue per 100 liters, a key measure of beer sales. The brand’s Bud Light customers abandoned the beer after it partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney and botched its response to the controversy. Bud Light lost its long-held top-selling American beer title to rival Modelo after its short partnership with Mulvaney. But AB InBev still wants to turn things around — and ditching its CMO may be one of the steps.
