Crypto super PACs spent heavily on Republicans as well as key Democrats, including two who won open seats in the US Senate, Elissa Slotkin in Michigan and Ruben Gallego in Arizona. How Washington regulates the industry has enormous consequences for this burgeoning sector, along with the 52 million Americans who now hold digital assets. “The strategy is to have as many conversations with as many people in the Trump orbit as possible so that everyone has an understanding of what the crypto industry is most interested in,” she said. They also helped finance Fairshake, a crypto industry super PAC launched last year that was active in congressional contests. An industry super PAC spent $40 million to back to Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno in Ohio, who ousted three-term Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.

For Brandon Mintz, it was the text messages and calls that started rolling in from friends and colleagues asking how high bitcoin prices could go. Strategic reserve could set off 'bitcoin space race'Under this idea, the U.S. would establish a “strategic bitcoin reserve,” like the ones it already maintains for gold and oil. A day later, Trump echoed the strategic reserve idea, though did not put a specific figure on it. On Nov. 6, Lummis posted on X in all-caps, “WE ARE GOING TO BUILD A STRATEGIC BITCOIN RESERVE,” alongside two American flags. For crypto supporters, a strategic bitcoin reserve would send a signal to markets and countries alike about the digital token’s value.

Bitcoin hits $80,000. Why Trump is boosting crypto
  + stars: | 2024-11-10 | by ( David Goldman | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
After briefly touching the $80,000 milestone, bitcoin was trading just below it Sunday mid-morning. The crypto industry believes Trump’s victory is a bullish sign for bitcoin and other digital currencies. Although Trump was once a bitcoin skeptic, once saying it “was based on thin air,” he has fully embraced crypto in recent months — unlike the Biden administration, which has sought to rein in crypto. A big reason Trump has changed his tune on crypto: He now has a financial stake in it. In September, Trump and his children started a new crypto business called World Liberty Financial.

Donald Trump's crypto project, World Liberty Financial, published a 13-page document on Thursday, describing its mission, how tokens can be allocated, and indicating that the Republican presidential nominee and his family could take home 75% of net revenue. The paper released on Thursday shows that Trump and his family assume no liability. Folkman previously had a company called Date Hotter Girls and reportedly helped develop crypto project Dough Finance. Folkman previously said just 20% of WLF's tokens would be allotted to the founding team, which includes the Trump family. The paper calls Trump the "chief crypto advocate."

Bitcoin has surged 12% as Trump's election odds in betting markets began rising in mid-September. Trump's crypto-friendly stance has boosted investor enthusiasm for bitcoin as his betting odds rise. According to the betting website Polymarket, Trump's odds of winning the Presidential election in November bottomed on September 18. Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani said last month that a Trump win could be monumental for the crypto industry. New York CNN —The bitcoin bulls and meme stock traders are fired up about the prospect of another Donald Trump White House. At the same time, shares of Trump Media were bouncing back from Tuesday’s mysterious 10% drop and resuming their meme-stock-esque tendency to rise without any fundamental reason to do so. What do the two assets, a digital currency and a media stock, have in common? Crypto traders are amped because of the Republican nominee’s apparent 180 on the asset class he once dismissed as a scam. Bottom line: Both bitcoin and Trump Media could become even more volatile over the next few weeks as more traders pile in.

World Liberty Financial — which bills itself as a crypto bank where customers will be encouraged to borrow, lend and invest in digital coins — began its token sale on Tuesday morning. On Monday, project co-founder Zachary Folkman bragged in a pre-launch stream on X that "well over 100,000 people" were whitelisted to invest. "However, these numbers are just, in my opinion, unheard of, and I think we're setting all sorts of new records in crypto." The platform says, so far, it has sold more than 788 million tokens at $0.015 per token. That is less than 4% of the 20 billion tokens made available for public sale and amounts to around $11.8 million, still well off the $300 million fundraising target.

Donald Trump's new crypto project is off to a rough start. But WLF's website suffered regular and lengthy outages for much of the morning and early afternoon, contributing to a limited number of sales. That's less than 3% of the 20 billion tokens made available for public sale. Over the course of the day, the website frequently showed a page saying, "We are under maintenance." The glitchy launch is a potential setback to the Republican presidential nominee with just three weeks until the election.

The PAC said the latest filing covered donations in the period of July 1 through Sept. 30, but numbers included cumulative contributions. At least 18 donors gave more than $5.5 million in bitcoin to Trump 47, the filing shows. Trump said in his keynote that his campaign had raised $25 million from the crypto industry, though he didn't specify the split between digital tokens and dollar donations. Among the new donors is Chase Herro, one of the co-founders of the Trump family's new crypto project World Liberty Financial.

World Liberty Financial is separate and apart from Trump Media & Technology Group , the parent company of social media platform Truth Social. Trump Media, known by ticker symbol DJT, started trading in March, after going public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). On Tuesday, the former president and current Republican nominee aims to launch WLFI, the token accompanying his new crypto project called World Liberty Financial. Trump owns about 57% of DJT's outstanding shares, but his potential control over World Liberty Financial is more opaque. Folkman added that WLF would publish the "long-awaited" roadmap for the project on Tuesday, in tandem with the token sale.

With just weeks left before the November election, former President Donald Trump has taken to promoting items and businesses that are not at all connected to his presidential campaign. “You’re going to love them,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform last week of his new line of branded watches, which cost anywhere from $499 to $100,000. “Would make a great Christmas gift.”While running for president this cycle, Trump has also promoted a sneaker brand, boots and even Bibles — all of which are business and not campaign ventures. Trump and Harris have different reasons to try to attract the crypto community — donors, voters, the fact that the former president likes anyone who flatters him, etc. All of Trump's courting of the crypto industry is possible because Democrats left open an opportunity for him to pounce. In September, he unveiled his own crypto venture, World Liberty Financial. The crypto industry doesn't mind the attention it's getting from policymakers. What Harris or Trump will actually do on crypto is unclear, but that's not really the point right now.
